Unified Xaero Worldmap 2.0.4

2.0.4 is a small client-side fix release. When merged (synced) tiles from other players were applied to a map region that Xaero's World Map had already unloaded, Xaero kept a stale region detection for it, so at zoomed-out levels the map went on showing the old, pre-merge picture until you zoomed in. 2.0.4 now replaces Xaero's region detection when it applies tiles to an unloaded region. It adds no features and changes no settings.

Who should update: players (the fix is in the client). Servers need nothing from this release. Updating is optional but recommended, and there is no need to update all players at once.

Fixed

  • Merged tiles now show on the zoomed-out map without zooming in first (client). When synced tiles were merged into a region that Xaero had unloaded, Xaero kept its old region detection, and the zoomed-out levels kept drawing the picture from before the merge.
  • What changed: UXWM now replaces Xaero's region detection when it applies tiles to an unloaded region, instead of leaving the stale one in place.

Good to know

  • The slow first zoom-out over a large explored area is not a bug in this mod. It is Xaero's World Map's own behaviour: Xaero builds its zoomed-out caches only for the regions shown on screen, a few per second.
  • Measured on a real large map, on the first full zoom-out half of the view was drawn after 16.6 s and 90 % after 39.1 s without UXWM, and after 13.0 s and 38.5 s with UXWM 2.0.3. Every later open of the map, and the next session, was instant.
  • What to do: open the map zoomed out once and let it fill. It stays fast afterwards.

Unchanged

The Windows save retry of 2.0.3 and the copied-tile guards and report of 2.0.2 are unchanged. See the 2.0.3 and 2.0.2 changelogs for them, including "If your map already has copied tiles".

Compatibility

2.0.4 works with 2.0.3, 2.0.2, 2.0.1 and 2.0.0 in any combination of client and server. The network protocol (v5), the map file formats and every config key are unchanged, so you can update servers and players one by one. Still not compatible with 1.0.0 (protocol v4); sync stays off with a chat message until both sides run 2.0.x.

Test result

  • Automated tests: 745 core tests, also run on Java 8.

Requirements

Unchanged from 2.0.3:

  • Xaero's World Map 1.46.0 or newer, on the server and every client.
  • Fabric: Fabric API for your Minecraft version. Forge / NeoForge: xaerolib, which World Map needs anyway.
  • Xaero's Minimap is optional (client only); if you use it, 26.4.0 or newer.

Known limitations

Unchanged from 2.0.3: see the 2.0.2 changelog. In short, on a LAN game the host's own map does not sync, client and server must be on the same Minecraft family, and the server and every client must speak the same protocol version (all 2.0.x versions do, so 2.0.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 can be mixed; 1.0.0 cannot).
