⚠️ Beta. Unbound is still in active development: expect rough edges, balance changes and the occasional bug. Ideas and bug reports are very welcome — feel free to open one in the issue tracker.

Unbound

It starts with a small refractor on a hill and a clear night. Where it ends, no telescope will show you.

Unbound is a space journey for Minecraft, on Fabric and NeoForge. Find the planets in a real night sky, build a rocket, land on twenty-six worlds built from scratch, fly your own ship beyond the Solar System, and learn who placed the ancient gates on every world at once.

The sky is your map

Black holes in the graviscope

There is no telescope menu: the world's own sky is the instrument, so a hill blocks it and an observatory dome doesn't. Trace Orion and nine more constellations, catch falling stars for stardust, and focus a wandering light until it becomes Mars. The fourth telescope, the graviscope, shows a black hole bending starlight.

Twenty-six worlds, none of them a reskin

Worlds of Unbound

On the Moon, Earth hangs in a black sky. Mars has blue sunsets and dust storms, Saturn's rings cross the sky, and on Jupiter you walk on the clouds. Farther out wait nine moons and dwarf planets, and a rogue planet drifts by. A riftscope in the End and a magmascope in the Nether find eight more: crystal mountains, a world-sized eye, a sea of molten gold, a mushroom as big as a world. Each has its own gravity, climate, weather, events and creatures.

Your own ship

A fight with raiders

A rocket gets you there, a ship lets you stay. Pick one of sixteen hulls, fit modules and take the cockpit. Skim a world like a plane, climb until planets become spheres, jump between them, mine belts and comets, salvage wrecks, fight off raiders or tow home a downed friend.

Peoples, stations and orders

Peoples and stations

Sixteen peoples bring their own crafts, trades, conversations and nearly three hundred tasks. Dock at their stations, from a stone disc over the Moon to a bronze wheel in Saturn's rings, take orders, earn trust, and later raise your own station on a beam of light.

Dungeons and bosses

A boss arrives

Every major world hides a multi-floor dungeon with puzzles, traps and an altar at the bottom. An offering summons its master with a cinematic entrance and phases to learn, from the selenite colossus under the Moon to the vapor wyrm in its lightning tower: forty-two masters and guardians, whose trophies become weapons, armor and artifacts.

Between the stars

Four places between the stars

An interstellar drive takes your ship out of the Solar System: to the dust pillars of the Orion Nursery, the golden swarm around Tabby's Star, the pulsar beam of the Crab Nebula and the time well of Cygnus X-1, where your minutes are your station's hours.

Where the roads go

The Underweave and the Underdeep

The stars are one road of three. Behind the End, a spindle keel pierces the fabric between worlds to its underside, the Underweave; under the Nether, a crucible jacket carries a ship through mantle and core, past an ocean of molten iron. Something waits at each road's end. See all three through to build the Wayfarer, the gate builders' own ship, and then bring the light back wherever a patch of sky goes dark.

The Ringwrights

A gate wakes up

Every world has a gate ring older than anything around it; wake one and a pillar of light hits the ground. Learn the Ringwrights' script sign by sign, open doors that answer only to words, pass sixteen niche trials for sixteen tablets. What they say, you'll read yourself.

A base that runs on light

A base at sunset

Machines come in four marks with their own models and pass energy as beams of light. Pipes carry fuel and coolant; pneumatic mail, a storage network, an autocrafter, lifts and a drone do the chores. Your spacesuit takes a module against each danger: no air, heat, acid clouds.

Real science under the fantasy

Radio telescope and spectral lab

The spectra are real: match the lines of an ore, a creature part or a star against the Balmer series or the sodium doublet to learn what it is and what it makes. Tune a seven-by-seven radio dish for signals on their schedule, some worth a "Wow!". The sky also keeps a calendar of twenty-six anomalies, from a supernova to Planet Nine.

What makes it different

  • Its own look. Hand-drawn textures and models, custom particles, light and post-effects; low, medium and high presets.
  • Made for servers. Progress lives on the server, per player: crew one ship, log out mid-flight, find your seat waiting. Tested on dedicated Fabric and NeoForge servers; 0.06–0.6 ms of mod tick per world at rest.
  • Plays well with others. JEI, REI, Jade, Sodium, Iris (simpler effects under shader packs), Trinkets Updated, Curios, Team Reborn and NeoForge energy, c: tags, AppleSkin, Xaero's maps, JourneyMap, Distant Horizons.
  • A journal that leads the way. 391 stages that show the next step, never the whole answer. English and Russian.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.3, Java 25. One jar per loader; a server and its players need the same one.
  • Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.19.5+, Fabric API, GeckoLib 5.5.7+
  • NeoForge: NeoForge 26.3 (beta builds for now), GeckoLib for NeoForge
  • Optional: JEI or REI, Jade, Sodium, Iris, Trinkets Updated (artifact slots); Mod Menu on Fabric; Curios 17.0.0-beta.3+ on NeoForge
