What's new

Friendly Enderman 0.9.5-beta

A big temporary build on the way to 1.0. Endrina talks a lot more now, the other endermen talk too, trust has been reworked from the ground up, and the animation pack now comes inside the mod.

✦ Endrina's voice

Almost 20,000 lines. She now has 19,816 lines across nearly 1,200 situations, and most of them change with how much she trusts you.

  • Speech stages by trust
    • Below 25: she speaks only Ender, and less often. Most of her Ender lines are things she says because you can't understand her.
    • 25–49: cold English, with some Ender mixed in.
    • 50–74: her normal self.
    • 75+: chattier, and she teases you.
    • Her trust falling back a stage gets its own lines.
  • Cold, teasing and angry lines for the low, high and negative ends of trust.
  • Language lessons: 101 short Ender courses, one every 10 minutes from trust 25 (the interval can be changed in Mod Menu). One of them is a secret. Finishing the last one earns her Phrasebook.
  • "Things I Said": a book of every Ender secret and aside she's said to you, in English, with the day she said it.
  • Secrets: 100 of them, including 6 tied to the moment (fed, stared at, hurt, petted, given a gift…).
  • Gestures: about half of her lines come with one of 11 gestures (nod, shake, wave, point, shrug, tilt, look away, cross arms, cover face, bounce, sigh), picked to match what she's saying.
  • Film-style captions just above your hotbar, with her name. Never in chat.

What she talks about

  • Every biome: all 66 have their own lines (about 50 each), oceans and mountains included.
  • Every structure: 40 lines each, plus desert wells, fossils, amethyst geodes and end ships.
  • Pillager camps that aren't hers. The one you rescued her from, she stays quiet about.
  • Weather and time: sunrise, sunset, rain, thunder, real holidays and special dates.
  • Food: 32 lines for every food when you feed it to her and 32 when you eat it.
  • Your armor: every material, full sets, mixed sets, upgrades and downgrades, elytra, enchantments, dyed leather by color, trims by pattern, and taking it all off.
  • Your condition: health, hunger, hazards, sleep, flying, ender pearls, game modes, and all 34 status effects.
  • What you do: every ore, crafting, building, chopping, digging, harvesting, enchanting, brewing, trading, fishing, taming, placing blocks.
  • Smelting: she comments on what came out of a furnace, smoker or blast furnace (46 kinds), raw food on a campfire, and what you burn as fuel.
  • Villages: snooping in villagers' houses, chests and crops, with different lines at night, in rain and during raids.
  • Running: sprinting, sprint-jumping, long runs, and how many times she's had to teleport to keep up (she counts).
  • The spyglass: what you're looking at, and her if you're looking at her. Don't keep it on her chest.
  • Riding: getting on and off every rideable mob, galloping, jumping, long rides, your mount getting hurt, taming horses, saddling.
  • Bumping into her: different lines when it happens again, while she ducks, and while she sits.
  • Idle talk: every few minutes, about her past, the two of you, jokes, thoughts, and wondering out loud. Campfires, bedtime at home, the sea, villages and riding together each have their own lines. Sometimes she brings up the actual day of the week.
  • Dates: a greeting once per real day (holidays, Mondays, Fridays, weekends) and milestones at 7, 30, 100 and 365 days together.

✦ Trust, reworked

  • A trust bar replaces the XP bar whenever trust changes and while you look at her face.
    • Green rising to gold at 100; red fading to black below 0.
    • Shown to one decimal, with hearts by stage.
    • Particles and a sound when it moves.
  • Gains are slower and steadier
    • Every food has its own trust value (bread +0.6, steak +1.1, golden carrot +1.6, enchanted golden apple +2.0).
    • Two meals count per 20 minutes of play.
    • Petting, time together, gifts and fighting side by side add small amounts.
  • Losses are halved, except for betrayals
    • Accidents cost less.
    • At 75+, accidents don't count at all. At 100, only real betrayals do.
  • Fighting together: a sword sweep or misclick that catches her mid-fight is forgiven. She just tells you to watch your swing.
  • Her slow meal: at full health she takes her time eating (longer for bigger food), then stays full for a while and politely refuses more.

✦ The other endermen talk too

  • 198 conversations (2,164 lines) between wild endermen: couples, parents and children, kids playing, strangers, nitwits. They talk about the world, about you, and about danger.
  • Endrina joins in with wild ones, wild babies and your other tamed endermen. Your tamed ones also chat with each other.
  • She steps in for you: if a wild one comes after you she defends you, and if you stared one down she apologizes for you.
  • Wild reactions: about 600 Villager News-style reactions (around 4,900 lines) to mobs, the weather, blocks you place or break, what you wear, and what you do. Kids, nitwits, mothers, fathers and old friends each have their own versions.
  • Speech bubbles above whoever is talking while they're on your screen, and captions above the hotbar when they're not.
  • They stop, face each other, and stay put while they talk.

✦ Things to do with her

  • She rides behind you (trust 50+): get on a horse, donkey, mule, camel or happy ghast and she climbs on behind you with her arms around your waist.
  • Chat commands: say "Endrina" or "hey" followed by stay, come, sit, guard, wander, look at me, what's that, quiet, talk again, go home, attack, leave it, how are you, praise, love you, good night, good morning, or bye.
  • Expressions: she blushes, looks away, gets embarrassed, goes curt, gets bashful about flowers and outfits, and closes her eyes when you pet her at higher trust.
  • Dancing: every music disc has its own dance. Some discs she won't dance to. Discs from other mods get a default.
  • Ducking: she gets through 2-block doorways, low tunnels and under trees, and follows you indoors properly.
  • She picks up blocks less often: one block, then a 5-minute break. This can be turned off in Mod Menu.

✦ Looks and animation

  • The animation pack is built in. It turns on automatically when Entity Model Features is installed and shows up as "Friendly Enderman Animations". No separate download.
  • Smoother poses: sitting, getting on a horse, being petted, being tied up and getting angry now glide in instead of snapping.
  • Breathing: all endermen breathe slowly while standing still.
  • Riding pose: she sits properly on the horse's back with no gap at the hips and no seam at the elbows. She hops on and off.
  • Fixed: flickering at the sides of male endermen's eyes.

✦ Settings

  • Mod Menu screen scrolls and has new settings:
    • wild talk on/off;
    • how often they talk (rare, normal, lively);
    • wild reactions on/off;
    • tamed endermen picking up blocks on/off.
  • Removed: the temporary testing buttons and the line counter.

✦ Fixes

  • She now comes inside houses through 2-block doors and into tall rooms.
  • She teleports to you while you're riding.
  • She no longer chokes in leaves while riding.
  • Landing next to you after a teleport no longer counts as a bump.
  • Idle talk now actually happens (it could be crowded out completely before).
  • Food lines no longer run out after a few meals in a day.
