Description

Definitive End
The final battle against the Ender Dragon—the way it should have been.
This mod adds no new items, blocks, dimensions, or mobs. It relies solely on vanilla mechanics and entities to transform the End encounter into a difficult, epic, and customizable climax.

Author: TronelUCG

Mod ID: definitive_end

Minecraft: Forge 1.12.2

Concept
In vanilla Minecraft, the Dragon feels underwhelming as the game's "finale." UCG's Definitive End rebalances this by introducing increased health and damage, lightning strikes, waves of hostile mobs, distinct phases, regenerating crystals, tension-building messages, and (optionally) custom battle music. This creates the perfect setting for a truly difficult and challenging battle—without becoming impossible. Everything can be adjusted in `config/definitive_end.cfg`.

Main features

Dragon stats

  •

    • Default health: 1000 HP (5.0× Vanilla; Vanilla = 200).
    • Damage: 2× Vanilla damage.
    • When the fight starts, the current player count is used and multipliers are locked in:
      • +200 HP per extra player.
      • +0.5 damage multiplier per extra player.
    • If someone dies or leaves, those values do not drop.

Island lightning

  •

    • During the fight, lightning strikes near the central portal (default radius: 20 blocks).
    • Strikes can damage nearby players (they do not destroy End Crystals).
    • Before phase 25: every 300 ticks (~15 s).
    • During phase 25: every 100 ticks (~5 s).
    • Chance for a strike to spawn mobs:
      • Normal: 30%
      • Phase 25: 25%
    • Default: 5 hostiles per successful spawn.

Hostile spawns

  • Mod-spawned hostiles have a very high follow/sight range (default 64).
  • Global cap: 40 living mod-spawned hostiles (extras are culled).
  • Per-phase mob lists (configurable by entity ID, including other mods):
Phase Default mobs
Initial Zombie, Skeleton, Creeper, Spider
75% + Cave Spider, Wither Skeleton, Slime
50% Phase 75 list + Blaze
25% Phase 50 list + Ghast
  • Optional independent lists for periodic lightning only (300-tick / 100-tick).
  • Upgrades (mob_upgrades): by default focused on phase 25 (each phase can be toggled):
    • Armor and weapons (with enchantments) on zombies / skeletons / wither skeletons / etc.
    • Charged creepers.

End Crystals

  •

    • On crystal break: 30% chance for 2 lightning strikes on that tower and a knockback to nearby players.
    • In phase 25, crystals can regenerate on their own (interval, chance, and max restored crystals are configurable; default max 3).
    • Chat warnings scale with 1 / 2 / 3 restored crystals.
    • Crystals cannot heal the Dragon above 40% of max health during phase 25.

Life phases (75% / 50% / 25%)

The first time each threshold is crossed:

  1. A knockback wave pushes players away.
  2. After a short delay (~2 s), multiple lightning strikes spawn mobs from that phase’s list:
    • 75%: 3 strikes
    • 50%: 5 strikes
    • 25%: 8 strikes

Phase 25 (climax):

  •

    • Periodic knockback every 200 ticks (~10 s).
    • +30% damage resistance on the Dragon.
    • Faster lightning and heavier mob pressure.
    • Crystal regeneration (within the configured limits).

Soft nerf (“exhaustion”)

If phase 25 lasts 15 minutes (configurable) and the Dragon is still alive:

  • Message: “The dragon looks exhausted... It's now or never!”
  • By default can: stop lightning mob spawns, stop crystal restores, and stop periodic knockback.
  • Each soft-nerf effect is individually configurable.

Immunity & defense (optional)

  •

    • Damage immunity (off by default): only listed items can hurt the Dragon (e.g. diamond sword, bow).
    • Immune to bed explosions (on by default).
    • Armor destruction (off by default): Dragon hits heavily damage armor durability; immune armor IDs can be listed.

Custom music

Play your own track in a loop during the fight (per player; stops on death or when leaving the End).

  1. Convert your track to OGG Vorbis.
  2. Name it exactly: battle_theme.ogg.
  3. In the config:
    B:"Enable Custom Music"=true
    S:"Custom Music Sound"=definitive_end:battle_theme
  4. Launch the game once with the mod installed (so folders are created), then quit.
  5. Place the file here:
    .minecraft/config/definitive_end/music/assets/definitive_end/sounds/battle_theme.ogg
(Launcher: Installation → folder icon / “Open folder”.)
  6. Join a world, go to the End with a living Dragon, and raise Master volume.

FAQ:

Are you going to update the mod?

I’ll be keeping an eye out for any bugs or errors, so yes.

Can I include it in my modpack?

Yes. You don't need to ask for permission; feel free to add it to any modpack.

Can I re-upload this mod to CurseForge or another site?

It depends. If it's a compatibility patch, a bug fix, or an improvement to the mod, that's fine. If you upload it elsewhere, I don't mind too much either, as long as you credit me as the original creator.

Is it compatible with other mods?

I've tested it in a modpack with over 100 mods and didn't have any issues. However, try to avoid using mods that alter the core mechanics of the Ender Dragon fight.

Can the mod be configured?

The mod is almost entirely configurable. There might be bugs in that section, though; I'll keep an eye on it.

I found a bug... Could you fix it?

Tell me about the bug, and I'll fix it in the next patch as soon as possible.

The music I added for the battle isn't playing. What should I do?

Make sure that:
- The file is in OGG Vorbis format.
- The file is named exactly "battle_theme.ogg".
- The file is located at "<your Minecraft folder>/config/definitive_end/music/assets/definitive_end/sounds/battle_theme.ogg".
- In the mod's .cfg file, under the "music" section, *B:"Enable Custom Music"=* is set to "true", and *S:"Custom Music Sound"=* is set to "definitive_end:battle_theme".
- In-game, under sound options, your Master volume is set high.

The mod is too difficult. How can I lower the difficulty?

Go to the .cfg file located in "<your Minecraft folder>/config" and open it with Notepad. Look for options that let you reduce the number of hostile mobs that spawn, the dragon's damage or health, and things like that. All the settings are explained in detail within the file.

Does the mod work in multiplayer?

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test that, but it should work in multiplayer as well. If that turns out not to be the case, let me know and I'll fix it.

What does "UCG" mean?

It's simply a sort of signature I used when I was very young. It stood for "Un Chico Gamer" (A Gamer Guy) in Spanish.

Are you Spanish?

I'm Argentine. Good evening.

Ready for the grand finale?
Install the mod, tune the config if you want… and make the End shake.
