Tycoon Vault
Wine, whisky, watches and gold - and what they are worth today.
Tycoon Vault lets you put your money into things that keep their value. Buy gold at the real gold price or refine your own, collect watches whose prices follow the market year by year, lay down wine and whisky and let the calendar age it. Where you store it matters: a good cellar adds value, a bad one takes it away.
Gold and silver
- Real prices. The Bullion Dealer sells gold and silver at the real price of the day, back to 1980.
- 19 products: gold bars from 1 g to 1 kg and a 400 oz standard bar, a general bullion coin, bullion coins modelled on famous real ones (sold from the year they first came out), a coin that carries the year you bought it, and silver coins and a silver kilo bar.
- A premium on top: small pieces cost more per gram, big bars barely more than the metal. The dealer buys back at a discount, so buying and selling straight back always costs you.
- Collector's coins from old issues carry a numismatic premium and only turn up at auction.
- Lay your bars down: right-click a block with a large gold or silver bar and it lies there, stacked crosswise like in a real vault - up to 16 per pile (8 of the 400 oz bars). Empty hand takes the top one back.
The gold refinery
Turn Minecraft gold into the 999.9 bars the dealer sells and buys back.
- Parting Furnace: gold ingots, nuggets, raw gold and blocks become Gold Anodes (995). Runs on furnace fuel or on FE.
- Electrolysis Cell: one anode becomes one Fine Gold Grain (999.9). Up to four Rectifier Modules make it up to eight times faster.
- Tank House: a multiblock hall (3 x 3, 3 to 9 long) with up to seven basins for serious volume - one kilogram in a few minutes. The screen tells you which block is missing and where.
- Casting Station: grains go into a gram counter, you pick the bar size and it casts exactly the bar the dealer trades. Bars and plain coins can also be melted back down (1 percent loss, so recasting never pays).
Hoppers and pipes work on every side, and JEI and Jade (both optional) show recipes, yields and progress.
Watches
The Jeweller sells 65 watch models, from 1980s digital classics to steel sports watches and chronographs, each from the year it came out, at the second-hand market price of the year. The rarest vintage pieces are only ever found at auction. Every model has its own look and its own price curve over the decades.
Wine
- 59 wine estates from fourteen regions, from about $100 a bottle up to legends, with a vintage table for every region: great years are worth more, weak years less. Some wines only reach the market years after the harvest.
- Buy bottles and original wooden cases from the Wine Merchant, who has a new selection every calendar week (with limited stock).
- Make your own: press grapes in the Wine Press, ferment the must in the Fermenting Vat for 14 days, fill glass bottles. Grapes come from any mod that tags them as grapes (Pam's HarvestCraft works); without one you can still buy.
- Twelve equal bottles pack into a case; only cases from the merchant carry the original-case bonus.
Whisky
- 41 distilleries from Scotland, Ireland, Japan, the US, Taiwan, India and Wales, with their official bottlings at several ages. Some of them have closed - their whisky is the stuff of legends, and only turns up at auction.
- Casks: buy a Whisky Cask, or make your own - malt grain in the furnace, then the Pot Still (with a fire below) turns it into new make spirit. Let it rest in the cask for years, then bottle it after at least three: the age is on the label. The angel's share takes 2 percent of the cask every year.
The cellar
The Wine Rack and the Whisky Cask check where they stand: is it dark, underground, cool and stable? The more of these three it passes, the better the cellar - excellent adds about 4 percent of value a year to wine, bad loses 10. Wine just lying in a chest loses a little. Bought pieces come professionally stored; from then on it is up to you.
Show it and store it
- Watch Display - a counter under glass for six watches on cushions.
- Watch Box - storage for 27 watches, filled by hoppers.
- Bottle Shelf - eight standing bottles of wine or whisky.
They belong to whoever places them - only the owner (and operators) opens them. The Bottle Shelf is not a cellar.
Fair dealing
Dealers sell at the estimated value plus a margin and buy back below it. What you paid a dealer comes back as a refund when you sell the same goods, and only the profit counts as income. Your own wine and whisky sell at a falling price the more you bring each week. Tooltips show the estimated value, vintage, age and storage.
Works with
- Tycoon Skills (optional): dealers do not sell what the skill tree still holds back.
- TCG Packs (optional): watches, wine, whisky and collector's coins come up at its auction house, and watches, wine and whisky can be sold in its store.
- Tycoon Retail (optional): watches, wine and whisky can be sold in a Tycoon Retail store.
- JEI and Jade (optional): recipe pages for the refinery, contents and progress of every machine.
Everything is named neutrally - the makers, estates and distilleries are invented.
For servers and pack makers
- Config (
tycoonvault-common.toml): the gold premiums (gold.premiumScale) and buy-back discounts, the dealers' margin and buy-back, how many wines, whiskies and casks the merchant offers each week, how strongly storage counts (cellar.storageStrength), fermenting days, minimum whisky age, the angel's share, the value of home-made goods, how often vault items come up at the auction house, and the whole refinery (refining.*: speeds, FE use, modules, the Tank House, melting down). - Tags:

A note on how this was made
This mod was built with substantial help from AI. The design decisions, the playtesting and the direction are mine; a large share of the code, the textures and this text was written with an AI assistant. I would rather say that plainly than have you wonder.
