tvo's BGM Changer
Replace Minecraft's vanilla music with your own tracks, organized by biome types.
By default, Minecraft just cycles through the same music pool regardless of where you are. BGM Changer lets you drop in your own .ogg files and have specific tracks play in specific biome types. Desert music in the desert, ocean music out at sea, and so on, similar to RPGs.
Features
- Per-biome music folders. Drop
.oggfiles intoconfig/tvobgmchanger/music/<category>/and they'll play automatically while you're in a matching biome. Categories:desert, plains, forest, jungle, taiga, swamp, savanna, badlands, mountains, ocean, river, beach, underground, nether, end, andunderwater(for when you're actually submerged, not just near water). - No-repeat shuffle. Every track in a folder plays once before any of them repeat, in a freshly randomized order each cycle.
- Doesn't go silent in biomes you haven't filled in yet. If you only add music for a few biome types, the current song just keeps playing (as if you never left) until you reach a biome that actually has its own tracks.
- Pause-friendly. Crossfades keep progressing smoothly even while the game is paused, the same way vanilla's own music does.
- Simple toggle. Turn custom music on/off from Mods > BGM Changer > Config in the pause menu. A "Now Playing" readout and an "Open Music Folder" shortcut are built into that screen. Vanilla music plays normally whenever the feature is off (or at the main menu).
- Client-side only. No server install required - works the same on singleplayer and when joining any server, vanilla or modded.
Setup
- Launch the game once with the mod installed to generate the folders automatically.
- Open
config/tvobgmchanger/music/and drop.oggfiles into whichever category folders you want (you don't need to fill in every category). - In-game, open the pause menu > Mods > BGM Changer > Config, and make sure "Custom Biome Music" is switched on (it's on by default). Use "Rescan Music Folders" if you add files while the game is already running.
Your files must be genuine .ogg files (not an mp3 or wav simply renamed to .ogg). If a file won't play, check the log for a decode error, or re-export it with something like: ffmpeg -i input.mp3 -c:a libvorbis -q:a 5 output.ogg
FAQ
Will this affect other players on a server? No, this is entirely client-side. It only changes what you hear; nothing is required or visible server-side.
Does it replace the Music volume slider? No, it uses it, custom tracks respect the same Music volume slider as vanilla music.
What if a biome has no music folder tracks? The current track just keeps playing, exactly as if you'd never left the previous biome, until you reach one that has its own tracks.
