TraduzMods — automatic Brazilian Portuguese translation
Play modded Minecraft in Português (Brasil). TraduzMods discovers missing translations, processes them in the background and saves the results for reuse. It keeps the Brazilian Portuguese translations already provided by mods and resource packs.
First public beta: Minecraft Java 26.1.2 / NeoForge. Tested in All the Mods 11 (ATM11) on Windows x64. This is a client-side mod; install it on your client, not on a dedicated server. It is an independent project, not an official ATM11 or FTB release.
What it does
- Discovers English and Brazilian Portuguese language resources from the active installation.
- Translates missing item names, tooltips, descriptions and text drawn through supported GUI/HUD paths.
- Includes a dedicated FTB Quests integration for titles and description paragraphs, without editing the original quest files.
- Prioritizes text being viewed and continues processing the remaining catalog in the background.
- Uses names from Minecraft and the installed mods to improve terminology consistency.
- Preserves supported placeholders and formatting; attempts to retain colors as text changes order in Portuguese.
- Saves completed translations incrementally and resumes progress after restarting.
Installation
- Install Minecraft Java 26.1.2 with a compatible NeoForge installation and Java 25.
- Put
traduzmods-neoforge-0.2.0.jarin the client'smodsfolder. - Start the game and select Português (Brasil) in its language settings.
- Let the first-time model installation and background translation finish. New text can initially appear in English while awaiting translation.
Local AI, downloads and requirements
No API key is required for the local mode. On Windows x64, the mod automatically downloads the Hy-MT2-1.8B Q4_K_M translation model (about 1.13 GB) and the llama.cpp runtime. Internet access and disk space are required for this first download. Later local inference runs on your computer.
The mod launches a separate hidden local translation process while the game is running. It listens only on 127.0.0.1, uses a session token and is stopped when the game exits. Downloads come from the official projects, use pinned versions and are checked against SHA-256 hashes.
CPU mode uses up to four CPU threads. On a compatible NVIDIA GPU with at least 4 GiB of free VRAM and driver 580 or later, the mod automatically installs CUDA support (about 577 MB of additional downloads). If CUDA installation or startup fails, it uses CPU. Translation shares your computer's resources with the game; speed and impact on performance vary. Automatic runtime installation is currently implemented for Windows x64 only.
Optional DeepL and privacy
If you configure your own DeepL API key in config/modtranslator/config.json, text submitted for translation is sent to DeepL and consumes your account's quota. Without a key, the mod uses local translation. If DeepL reports exhausted quota or certain authentication errors, it temporarily switches to the local backend. Do not share your configuration file or API key.
The translation cache is stored in config/modtranslator/. Completed results are recorded before being shown, consolidated periodically and recovered on restart. If copying the cache while the game is open, keep both translations.json and translations.journal.jsonl.
Beta limitations and feedback
Coverage is not universal. Text baked into images or textures and custom renderers outside the supported paths can remain in English. Machine translations may have wording, terminology or formatting errors. Existing author-provided Brazilian Portuguese translations take precedence. Chat, text inputs and several known player-name paths are excluded; other custom text may need specific handling.
The NeoForge release was tested in ATM11. A Fabric build exists in development but has not been validated in a running Fabric client and is not part of this first public upload. 22 integration tests passed, plus real local CPU/CUDA translation tests. These checks do not establish that every mod or screen is translated correctly.
For feedback, use this project's comments and include the mod name, original phrase, translation and Minecraft/loader version. A screenshot helps. Never post API keys or configuration files containing credentials.
