Ever booted up your favorite Tough As Nails modpack and created a new world only to realize you spawned in a desert? Now it's a five minute race to the nearest adjacent biome before your Climate Clemency runs out and you start to burn to death.
I love Tough As Nails, but a major problem I have with it is that it is extremely spawn dependent. If you get unlucky with a desert spawn, you'll inevitably burn and thirst to death because you need three things to survive:
- Wood for a crafting table.
- Iron for shears to get leaves to make leaf armor.
- Glass for bottles to drink water.
This mod adds extremely early game options for cooling armor, including various hats and a set of desert clothes that can be made without a crafting table, as well as a pre-glass option for drinking water. The hats don't provide any defense, and the desert clothes provide negligible defense, but they will keep you alive until you can make it out of the desert to (hopefully) a nearby savanna or other wooded biome.
If you spawn in a desert, you should be able to achieve both pieces of desert clothing rather quickly (I did it in two minutes) by hunting rabbits and gathering sticks from dead bushes.

Tags List:
- #tough_as_nails_egf:meat (by default includes beef, porkchop, mutton, rabbit, and chicken)
- #tough_as_nails_egf:straw (by default includes TaNEGF straw and Farmer's Delight straw)
- #forge:string
(In)Compatibilities:
- Farmer's Delight: by default, straw from Farmer's Delight can be used in place of this mod's straw.
- No Tree Punching: by default, No Tree Punching disables the gathering of sticks from dead bushes without the proper tool. This can be modified in the tags of the mod file, which might be named something like "$R9GQXEU". Open the file with WinRAR. The registry will be data\notreepunching\tags\blocks\always_drops.json. Open this with a .json editor, such as notepad or Visual Studio Code, and add "minecraft:dead_bush" to the list, then save and click "yes" to update the archive. You can now use both mods together. (There may be an easier way to achieve this, but I don't particularly care: I literally just used notreepunching to test the #forge:string tag and this was my workaround. If somebody knows an easier way, post it in the comments.)
