# Tool Leveling

Tool Leveling turns damageable equipment into a long-term progression system.

Actively used items gain experience, level up and receive permanent improvements. Reach the maximum level, prestige your equipment and install powerful modifiers through dedicated crafting stations.

## Leveling and Prestige

Equipment gains progress through active use.

Each level increases the item's power according to the server configuration. At maximum level, eligible equipment can enter a new prestige rank.

Prestige resets the normal level progression but grants permanent bonuses.

- Maximum normal level: 10
- Maximum prestige rank: 3
- Prestige bonuses remain permanently attached to the item.
- Higher prestige ranks unlock advanced abilities.

## Modification Station

The Modification Station installs permanent abilities and includes an in-game recipe guide showing materials, compatibility and prestige requirements.

| Haste | Redstone Block | Prestige 0 | Adds +10% mining speed. |
| Auto-Smelt | Blaze Rod | Prestige 0 | Automatically smelts valid block drops after loot generation. |
| Wisdom | Bottle o' Enchanting | Prestige 0 | Adds +25% experience from blocks. |
| Vein Breaker | Amethyst Block | Prestige 1 | Mines up to 8 connected matching ores together. |
| Soulbound | Echo Shard | Prestige 1 | Keeps the item with its owner after death. |
| Lifesteal | Ghast Tear | Prestige 2 | Restores 10% of confirmed melee damage as health. |

Compatible modifiers can be combined, but each modifier can only be installed once per item.

## Repair Table

- Repairs leveled equipment without removing levels, progress, enchantments or modifiers.
- Uses the item's normal repair material or an identical item.
- One material restores 25% of the boosted maximum durability.
- Vanilla anvils, Mending and standard repair mechanics remain available.

## Configuration

The server-authoritative common configuration is created at:

`config/toolleveling-common.toml`

Level requirements, maximum level, prestige limits, stat bonuses, repair strength, ability values and level-up feedback can be configured.

Balance changes marked as restart values require a world restart.

## Commands

Hold a damageable item in the main hand when using these commands.

- `/toolleveling` or `/toolleveling info` - displays level, prestige, progress, durability, speed bonus and modifiers.
- `/tl` - full alias for `/toolleveling`.
- `/toolleveling set level <value>` - sets the level. Requires permission level 2.
- `/toolleveling set progress <value>` - sets progress. Requires permission level 2.
- `/toolleveling set prestige <0..3>` - sets prestige. Requires permission level 2.
- `/toolleveling reset` - resets progression. Requires permission level 2.
- `/toolleveling modifier add <id>` - installs a compatible modifier. Requires permission level 2.
- `/toolleveling modifier remove <id>` - removes a modifier. Requires permission level 2.

Modifier IDs:

`auto_collect`, `reinforced`, `haste`, `auto_smelt`, `wisdom`, `vein_miner`, `soulbound`, `lifesteal`
