Tinkers Tactical Toughness

A mod added some Tinkers' Construct tools and armors related to defense and close-quarters combat; further expansions to other categories may come in the future.

This mod aims to add a collection of whimsical Tinkers' Construct tools. Currently, the focus is on defense and close-quarters combat, with plans to expand into other directions in the future.


Defense Damage

Similar to the related mechanic in Terraria Calamity but not identical, the defensive power of the player's armor will gradually decrease by a fixed percentage when struck by enemies, Boss attacks accelerate this degradation process. Performing a block can prevent Defense damage. If the player takes no damage for a continuous period, the armor's defense will slowly recover to its original value over time.

(Can be disabled via the config file.)

 

Swift Shield

A lightweight shield crafted for travelers. It does not reduce movement speed while blocking.
After blocking a certain amount of cumulative damage, it will become unusable for a period of time.
Blocking at the right moment just before being hit prevents damage from accumulating and triggers a counter-attack against the attacker.
Maximum block value and cooldown are based on the Large Plate's durability coefficient.
 

Heavy Shield

A thick defensive shield with a wide blocking angle. It slightly reduces your attack damage while held and reduces jump height while blocking.
Successfully blocking restores attack damage to normal for a short duration.
Hitting enemies inflicts Imbalance, reducing their attack damage, increasing damage taken, and preventing non-boss units from moving.
After Imbalance ends, enemies gain Imbalance Immunity for a duration, indicated by a clear visual cue.
Imbalance duration and cooldown are based on the Tough Tool Rod's durability coefficient.

 

Nunchaku

A special offensive weapon. It is similar to the nunchaku from Better Survival mod, but with slight differences.It starts with low damage, but the damage increases with each successive hit. The cap depends on the Tough Binding material. Hold right-click to keep attacking.

 

Doppelhander

A heavy defensive greatsword. It blocks a wide frontal arc, grants armor and toughness from its armor plate while held, and builds toward a stronger defensive stance with each successful block.

During Defensive Stance, blocking fully protects you, restores health, draws enemy aggro, and turns your attacks into wide sweeping strikes.

 

Maraca

A special dual-wield Tinkers' weapon inspired by the Hunting Horn from Monster Hunter. It performs different melodies based on recorded action sequences, allowing the user to grant buffs to both themselves and nearby allies while fighting.

 

Scout Armor

Lightweight armor designed for mobility. It sacrifices defensive stats in exchange for increased ranged damage, improved movement agility, and resistance to fall damage and environmental damage.

To compensate for its lower defense, the player gains evasion scaling with the armor value of the material, granting a chance to dodge incoming enemy attacks.

When an enemy targets a player wearing this armor, it will prioritize other nearby friendly units such as fellow players, villagers, and iron golems as its primary attack targets.

Most parameters can be adjusted via the config file.


Current Plans:

  1. (Finished) Added two types of shields with distinct roles and functions that set them apart from the Battlesign;
  2. (Finished) Migrate the Tinkers' version of Nunchaku into this mod;
  3. (Finished) Added the Doppelhänder, a melee weapon capable of blocking, whose power gradually increases as it takes hits;
  4. (Finished) Added the Maraca, a rhythmic Tinkers' weapon that grants buffs through melody and supports Quick Beat, Adagio, Resonance, and recorded combo playback;
  5. (Finished first type) Potentially add new types of armor;
  6. No plans to add new materials for now; whether to add new traits will be decided on a case-by-case basis (as many excellent mods already offer a wealth of creative materials and traits).
  7. (Finished) Added the Defense Damager system;
