What's new

Threat Director 2.0

Threat Director 2.0 is a complete overhaul focused on systemic hostile AI, configurable difficulty, multiplayer fairness, server compatibility, and performance.

Awareness System

  • Added persistent movement, sound, and light Awareness profiles for hostile mobs.
  • Mobs may receive one or more additional senses alongside their vanilla AI.
  • Added reactions to real server-side events:
    • Mining and block destruction
    • Explosions
    • Doors
    • Containers and chests
    • Combat
    • Entity damage
    • Projectile attacks
    • Sound-aware mobs investigate the event location without gaining artificial omniscience.
    • Movement and light detection remain line-of-sight dependent.
    • Awareness assignment and behavior are configurable.

Mob Traits

  • Added rare persistent trait combinations.
  • Added the following traits:
  • Coward
  • Berserker
  • Leader
  • Regenerative
  • Swift
  • Resilient
  • Traits use restrained visual feedback and emphasize systemic behavior.
  • Trait prevalence, limits, effects, and individual traits are configurable.

Difficulty Rebalance

  • Reduced ordinary difficulty pressure outside Blood Moons.
  • Reduced excessive ranged projectile density and knockback pressure.
  • Improved progression around iron-tier equipment.
  • Made high-end equipment challenging without keeping ordinary Hard difficulty permanently apocalyptic.
  • Preserved the previous full-intensity profile for Blood Moon events.
  • Continued scaling abilities, detection, population, and pursuit per target player.

Blood Moons

  • Added persistent Blood Moon scheduling.
  • Blood Moons occur every several nights using a configurable randomized interval.
  • Added atmospheric daytime omens.
  • Added several randomized omen messages.
  • Prevented active Blood Moon nights from being skipped by sleeping.
  • Added a dedicated full-apocalypse pressure profile.
  • Added configurable scheduling, announcement, and sleep behavior.
  • Blood Moon state persists across restarts.

Drowned and Ocean Pressure

  • Increased drowned swimming pressure at night.
  • Added difficulty and threat-scaled trident access.
  • Added high-probability Riptide behavior during dangerous conditions.
  • Added underwater dash approaches.
  • Trident impacts can destroy occupied boats.
  • Ocean pressure remains configurable and becomes strongest during Blood Moons.

Skeleton Improvements

  • Added long-range player detection.
  • Added predictive aim against moving players.
  • Added homing arrows.
  • Added configurable arrow-effect payloads:
    • Slowness
    • Poison
    • Nausea
    • Blindness
  • Added bounded effect durations with an approximate configurable mean.
  • Added retreat movement and backward dashes.
  • Skeleton pressure scales with difficulty, per-player Threat, and Blood Moon state.

Zombie Improvements

  • Added sticky aggro after acquiring a player.
  • Added nearby zombie aggro propagation when one zombie is attacked.
  • Added per-player targeting ranges.
  • Added lightning-backed horde calls.
  • Added bounded reinforcement behavior.
  • Added configurable weapons, tools, pickaxes, and shields.
  • Added player-style zombie shield blocking.
  • Successful blocks now negate damage and play vanilla shield feedback.
  • Axe attacks disable zombie shields for ten seconds by default.
  • Reduced default shield spawn probability.
  • Reduced default pickaxe spawn probability.
  • Tool-equipped zombies can break suitable blocks under strict safety rules.

Creeper Improvements

  • Added silent movement.
  • Added increased speed while approaching players from behind.
  • Added variable fuse durations.
  • Added persistent target memory after temporary line-of-sight loss.
  • Added shelter and wall analysis.
  • Added coordinated breacher assignment.
  • A nearby creeper may sacrifice itself against a viable wall to open a path for the horde.
  • Breaching respects:
    • mobGriefing
    • Loaded chunks
    • World borders
    • Spawn protection
    • Block hardness
    • Protected block entities
    • Compatible claim systems

Spider Balance and Abilities

  • Added configurable speed, regeneration, jump, and strength variants.
  • Added on-hit cobweb placement.
  • Added spider hatchlings on death.
  • Reduced ordinary hatchling pressure.
  • Significantly reduced the chance of producing a cave spider during normal Hard gameplay.
  • Reserved stronger hatchling behavior for extreme Threat and Blood Moons.

Enderman Improvements

  • Added shared anger when nearby hostile mobs are attacked.
  • Added pursuit behavior tied to per-player Threat.
  • Added support for moving through two-block spaces.
  • Added conditional anti-pillar teleport behavior.

Other Hostile Mobs

  • Added bounded thematic behaviors for additional hostile families.
  • Added configurable targeting, repositioning, ambush, support, and area-denial behavior.
  • All additional behavior remains difficulty-, Threat-, and performance-gated.

Per-Player Threat and Multiplayer

  • Preserved fully independent Threat calculations for every player.
  • Added playtime and XP progression to prevent permanent difficulty avoidance through deliberate under-equipping.
  • Death now removes part of the effective playtime contribution, providing a recovery window after losing equipment.
  • Detection range, aggro, abilities, and encounter pressure scale against the actual target player.
  • Improved group scaling with diminishing returns.
  • Improved encounter behavior for groups of three or four players.
  • Prevented inexperienced players from inheriting the full pressure of a heavily equipped teammate.
  • Improved integrated-server host authority and dedicated multiplayer behavior.

Encounter Direction

  • Improved coordinated encounter phases:
    • Stalking
    • Positioning
    • Engaging
    • Searching
    • Climax
    • Relief
    • Retreating
  • Improved tactical roles, sectors, population budgets, reinforcement timing, and cooldowns.
  • Existing loaded mobs are preferred before reinforcements are generated.
  • Added stronger safety bounds around population and planner work.

Configuration Overhaul

  • Added a fully documented JSON5 configuration.
  • Added exactly three root categories:
    • general
    • vanilla
    • modded
  • Added independent master switches for Vanilla and Modded behavior.
  • Added per-feature toggles and editable values throughout the mod.
  • Added English comments before every generated property.
  • Added strict validation for:
    • Probabilities
    • Ranges
    • Durations
    • Minimum and maximum pairs
    • Population caps
    • Performance limits
  • Invalid reloads preserve the previous valid configuration.

    • Commands
    • Errors
    • Threat states
    • Encounter phases
    • HUD diagnostic values
    • OP logging
  • Language is selected independently by each client.
  • Custom configuration messages remain unchanged.
  • Added readable English fallbacks for clients missing a translation resource.

Invisible Unmodded-Client Support

  • Unmodded clients can join servers running Threat Director.
  • Unmodded clients receive no:

    • Blood Moon announcements
    • Custom sleep messages
    • Debug telemetry
    • Threat Director commands
    • Command suggestions
    • Raw translation keys
