Threaded Horizons
Concurrent chunk management for Minecraft 1.18.2 / Forge — an experimental mod exploring threaded chunk generation, chunk I/O, lighting and server scheduling.
What it does
- Concurrent chunk generation with world-generation locking
- Asynchronous region/chunk I/O with dirty-save tracking
- Threaded lighting and chunk task scheduling
- Optional no-tick view distance
- Narrower worldgen write/lock radius
- In-game runtime diagnostics for executor queues
All features are config-gated, and optional integrations fail closed rather than crashing.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.18.2
- Forge 40.3.11+ (40.x line)
- Java 17
- Client and server (install on both for multiplayer)
Commands
/threadedhorizons status— executor queue depths and task counters/threadedhorizons notick— no-tick chunk counts (feature must be enabled)/threadedhorizons debug mobcaps— development diagnostics
Known limitations
- No performance promise. A matched comparison measured mean debug TPS of 8.95 with this mod and 12.62 without it across two paired runs — workload-specific, not a general claim.
- Not production-tested: client launch, multiplayer login, retained-world reopening and broad modpack compatibility were not established.
- Async chunk request is retired on this port (it deadlocked
/tp). - Fabric-only companions (BetterEnd, BetterNether, Charm, Terra, The Bumblezone) are not ported.
- Incubator-vector acceleration is intentionally excluded on Java 17.
