## 0.2.0 - Places, traps and real advancements (Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge 47.2+)
**New in 0.2.0**: Rowan's Cabin, the Abandoned Mine and the Cemetery; all structures redesigned and much rarer; Old Radio, Salt and Veil charms, Tripwire Bell and Mirror Cage; messages on your walls; brushable graves; self-lighting black candles; two new Codex chapters; 26 real advancements announced in the chat; the ritual no longer needs a chalk circle; a new pixel-art jumpscare and logo. Everything else below was already in the mod.
### The stalker
- **One enemy that behaves like another player** (`Rowan_Vale17` by default, configurable): player-model entity with a cracked porcelain mask, hood, pale hands, bloody knife and dim glowing pupils.
- **13 behaviours**: observing, watching, stealth, hiding, window watching, following, retreating, investigating, hunting, attacking, searching, disappearing.
- **Perception**: line of sight (field of view, walls, leaves, darkness, distance) and hearing (sprinting, walking, sneaking, breaking and placing blocks, doors, chests, explosions). He freezes while you look at him and moves when you look away.
- **Fake presence**: vanilla "joined / left the game" messages, a TAB entry with varying latency, `/list` integration. Ghost, brief and active sessions.
- **Window watching**: finds the windows of your house, stands outside, changes windows, may knock once.
- **Memory and personality**: last known position, trail following, patience / boldness / curiosity / playfulness.
- **Encounter director**: glimpse, forest, window, cave, silence, stalk. Cooldowns, night and darkness bonuses, safety checks, grace period.
- **Chase and attack**: standoff, charge, wind-up, strike and recovery, hit cap per chase, non-lethal option, shield aware.
- **Moves like a person**: sidesteps arrows, opens doors and gates, takes detours, recovers when stuck, avoids lava, fire, cactus and powder snow.
- **Body language**: 10 idle and reaction animations (head snap, looking at his hands, admiring the knife, a slow wave, twitching, cracking his neck, sniffing, dazzled by light, two dodges) and three knife strikes. Staring pose with tilted head, unnatural running pose.
- **Ambient events with no body**: a door opening by itself, footsteps behind you, a whisper, breath, a knock.
- **Dread effects** (client side): 5 intensity levels, heartbeat, the "silence" that mutes the world, closing fog, camera shake, hit pulse, one rare jumpscare. Subtitles in English and Spanish.
### Story and world
- **Rowan's journals**: 8 torn pages (English and Spanish). Pages 1-3 in abandoned camps, 4-6 in the Hollow Shrine, 7 in dungeon-type chests, the last one for whoever survives or kills a stalker they called.
- **Five hand-built structures**, rare and far from each other (you have to explore): **Abandoned Camp** (tent, tarp, fire, fallen tree, blood trail), **Hollow Shrine** (broken arch, braziers, stepped dais with crying obsidian, tall pillars), **Rowan's Cabin** (porch, chimney, woodshed, well, dead garden, kitchen, his own room with a lectern and his book), **Abandoned Mine** (head frame, shaft with ladder, timbered hall, three tunnels with ore, collapse, cot, strongbox with journal 7) and the **Cemetery** (iron fence, gate, gravestones, ruined chapel, mausoleum and crypt).
- **Grave mounds you can brush** (copper ingot + feather + stick) give Grave Dust. The crypt chest has some too.
- Black candles inside these places **light themselves when you are not looking**.
- **Messages on your walls**: now and then a sign writes itself on a wall of your base (a line from the journals, or something with your name). Look away and look back and it is gone.
### Calling him
- **Hollow Altar** with floating offerings (right click it with an empty hand to see what is missing): blood vial + mask shard + black candle + a book signed with his name, at night, lit with flint and steel. About 16 seconds of ritual: a blood circle that paints itself, soul fire, every flame nearby dies, darkness, a blood-red closing fog, heartbeat, lightning, smoke, and the stalker stepping out of it. The jumpscare is the same blocky pixel mask as the logo.
- **Blood vials**: Empty Vial (glass bottle + iron nugget), filled by right clicking a living animal.
- **The Great Ritual**: add three more offerings (Grave Dust, skeleton skull, eye of ender) and light the altar the same way: no circle to draw. A storm, a huge blood circle that stays on the ground, three bolts of lightning and a much stronger stalker.
- **Painted marks on the floor**: the altar paints the blood circle by itself when the ritual starts.
### Killing him
- Summoned stalkers are mortal (50 HP, great ritual 130 HP, they dodge). Drops: Stalker Essence, sometimes his knife; the greater one drops the **Stalker Trophy**, the **Stalker's Mask** and **Rowan's Knife**.
- **Stalker Trophy**: a pedestal with his mask; the mask turns to face you, tilts its head and its eyes glow as you come close.
- **Stalker's Mask** (helmet): wearing it makes him hesitate to hunt you.
- **Rowan's Knife**: iron-level weapon that slows whoever it cuts.
### Defences, tools and traps
- **Flashlight**: a moving beam of real light. It dazzles a charging stalker, exposes a hiding one and hurts a summoned one. Runs on charge, refilled from **Batteries** in your inventory.
- **Salt**: a line of salt stops him; he recoils and eventually gives up.
- **Old Radio**: switched on, it hisses louder the closer he is and the sound comes from his side; whispers in the static; an arrow on screen points to him.
- **Salt Charm** (3 salt, string, iron nugget): he stays away from you until dawn. One use.
- **Veil Charm** (2 amethyst shards, ender pearl, string): for about three seconds he cannot see you and loses your trail. Five uses, one every half minute.
- **Tripwire Bell** (2 string, gold nugget, iron nugget): rings when he steps on it, and only him.
- **Mirror Cage** (4 iron, 4 glass panes, amethyst shard): he sees himself and freezes for five seconds, then wants to be elsewhere. Cracks each time, breaks on the third.
- **Grave Dust** (undead drop, grave mounds, or bone meal + soul sand), **Stalker Essence**.
### The Hollow Codex
- A book that **writes itself as you learn**. Craft it with a Book, an Ink Sac and two Grave Dust.
- Leather cover that swings open, page turns, text typed out by an unseen pen, candle flicker, drifting dust, an eye that follows your cursor.
- **14 chapters** (English and Spanish) about the legend, his behaviour, journals, camps, his places, offerings, the calling, the Great Ritual, defences, charms and traps, and how to end him. Three are open from the start; the rest stay sealed until you discover what they talk about. Two are secret: **"The Name"** (carry a book signed with his name) and **"The Last Entry"** (read all eight journal pages, or kill a greater stalker).
- **Hidden ink**: some lines only show when a lit black candle burns close to you.
- Progress is saved with the player and kept after death.
### Other
- **26 real advancements** with toasts and chat announcements (find each place, first page, shard, blood, salt, flashlight, grave dust, radio, charms, bell, mirror cage, Codex, the rituals, surviving, killing him, the trophy, his mask, and the hidden "The Name" and "The Last Entry"), creative tab, recipes, full English and Spanish language files.
- Config file `otherplayer-common.toml` and operator commands (`/otherplayer ...`).
### Known limitations
- The TAB entry uses a default skin.
- Sounds reuse vanilla sound files through the mod's own sound events.
- Only the Overworld by default (configurable).
