# The Veil Below 1.1.0 — The Long Night

A major new update has arrived.

Version 1.1.0 expands The Veil Below with a large-scale world event, new atmospheric systems, new visual and audio effects, and several improvements to existing horror systems.

## The Long Night

Sometimes, morning doesn't come.

A rare new global event can transform an ordinary night into something far more disturbing.

During The Long Night:

- The atmosphere of the Overworld changes dramatically.
- The night can last far longer than expected.
- Fog, sky effects and environmental audio become increasingly unnatural.
- Existing horror encounters may behave differently.
- New large-scale celestial phenomena can appear.
- Strange activity may begin in the sky.
- Multiplayer players experience the same global event while personal horror encounters remain player-specific.

The full event is intentionally not explained here.

Some things are better discovered in-game.

## New Meteor System

The skies are no longer always safe.

- Multiple meteor types have been added.
- Meteors can travel across the sky at different speeds, distances and trajectories.
- Unique flyby and impact sounds have been added.
- Distant, near and extremely rare massive impacts are supported.
- Meteor impacts can leave physical damage, fire and craters in the world when terrain damage is enabled.
- Large impacts can be significantly more destructive than normal ones.
- Meteor audio uses multiple variants to reduce repetition.

## New Visual Effects

Added new custom visual assets and rendering systems for 1.1.0:

- New celestial horror visuals
- Large-scale sky effects
- Shockwave effects
- Meteor rendering
- Meteor trails and impact particles
- Improved fog and atmosphere transitions

These effects are rendered as part of the world rather than simple HUD overlays.

## New Audio

1.1.0 adds a completely new soundscape for its major event, including:

- Custom cinematic sequence
- New dark ambience
- Environmental wind
- Multiple meteor flybys
- Near and distant impacts
- Massive impact audio
- Distant meteor activity

Audio respects Minecraft volume settings and The Veil Below's accessibility controls.

## Multiplayer

- The Long Night is synchronized globally across the Overworld.
- Players receive the same major event phase and celestial state.
- Existing personal horror systems such as Gazer and Null remain player-specific.
- Improved reconnect and late-join synchronization.
- Improved server restart persistence.
- Major sequences are protected against duplicate playback after reconnecting.

## Persistence & Reliability

- Long Night progress can survive server restarts.
- Improved timeline validation and recovery.
- Added failsafes against permanent nighttime.
- Improved meteor scheduling.
- Improved event cleanup.
- Improved duplicate-event protection.
- Improved audio lifecycle handling.
- Improved configuration migration from older versions.

## Performance

- Meteor rendering is heavily limited and budgeted.
- Visual meteors do not require large numbers of normal Minecraft entities.
- Audio concurrency is limited to prevent excessive overlapping sounds.
- Improved loaded-chunk handling.
- Added additional protections against expensive world scans.

## Accessibility

The new effects integrate with the existing safety and accessibility system:

- Reduced Effects Mode
- Camera Shake controls
- Flashing controls
- Ambient Horror Volume
- Visual intensity controls
- Emergency effect reset

## Fixes & Improvements

- Improved Long Night multiplayer synchronization.
- Improved sky-space rendering.
- Improved meteor positioning and rendering.
- Improved sound handoff and looping.
- Fixed several potential persistence and timeline edge cases.
- Improved compatibility with existing config files.
- Additional internal stability and regression testing.
