Something older waits beneath the Overworld.
The Past Below brings the atmosphere of early Minecraft into a separate dimension for Minecraft 1.21.1 Fabric. Mine through bedrock and descend below the Overworld’s lower boundary to enter a world of classic landscapes, pigman settlements, and dangerous encounters.
How to go into new dimension
To enter Alpha dimension, dig through the bedrock layer at the bottom of the Overworld and descend below the world's lower boundary. Bedrock can be broken with diamond pickaxe
Explore the Alpha world
Discover terrain and caves based on Minecraft Alpha 1.2.6, with the classic 128-block world height and 14 naturally occurring biomes: Rainforest, Seasonal Forest, Forest, Swampland, Savanna, Shrubland, Taiga, Desert, Plains, Tundra, Sky, Ice Desert, Beaches, and Cliffs.
Early Alpha textures and matching furniture palettes give the dimension its nostalgic appearance. These visual changes apply only inside Alpha.
Discover pigman villages
Find procedurally generated settlements with varied buildings, biome-specific materials, Alpha cobblestone roads, and furnished interiors.
Explore homes, kitchens, workshops, shops, and guardhouses. Larger buildings include usable second floors with stairs. Each village has its own name, patterned flag, and roofed well.
Pigmen are neutral inhabitants who wander, open doors, sleep in their beds, trade through Minecraft’s familiar merchant interface, and defend nearby villagers. Their professions determine their barter offers.
Use /alphabelow locate village to find the nearest settlement. Operator permissions are required.
Survive new threats
Encounter Alpha-styled zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders, slimes, ghasts, and zombie pigmen. Reworked attacks include zombie rushes, skeleton volleys, spider pounces, and creepers that pursue players behind cover.
The rare zombie giant watches distant players, reacts to movement and sound, stalks its prey, and searches their last known position. Powerful melee attacks and a ground stomp make close encounters dangerous.
Find your way home
Build a Nether-style frame from coal blocks inside Alpha and light it with flint and steel. Its black animated portal returns you to the Overworld. The minimum outer frame size is 4×5 blocks.
