Description

The Hollowed

You ever get that feeling that something in your Minecraft world is watching you?

That’s basically what this mod is built around

The Hollowed is a horror mod that adds a giant crawling creature to your world. It doesn’t immediately spawn beside you and start attacking. At first, you might just hear footsteps, scratching, a door opening, or three knocks outside your house.

Eventually, you’ll spot it standing really far away, usually half-hidden behind a tree, hill, or building.

If you walk toward it, it disappears.

If you look away… well, that might be worse.

It gets worse over time

The Hollowed has hidden progression for every player. It becomes more active when you spend time outside at night, explore dark caves, sleep in the same place repeatedly, kill animals, and survive previous encounters.

There aren’t any boss bars, timers, phase messages, or giant warnings telling you what’s happening. The whole point is making you wonder whether you actually saw something.

The creature

The Hollowed is a massive pale creature with long arms, exposed ribs, giant hands, empty eyes, and a face that honestly just looks wrong.

It crawls everywhere on all four limbs and has different animations for watching, stalking, chasing, struggling, jumping, and breaking through obstacles.

When it starts hunting, it can:

Open doors

Climb over smaller obstacles

Notice and switch between multiple players

Break through walls that are blocking its body

If a wall is genuinely stopping it, it can tear open a passage roughly two blocks wide and three blocks tall. It only targets blocks inside the path it actually needs, although I would still recommend backing up any world you really care about.

Block drops are preserved, and it still can’t break bedrock or other unbreakable blocks.

Watching it

Earlier encounters usually happen pretty far away.

The mod purposely tries to place the creature partly behind trees, terrain, or structures so you might only see half of it watching you.

While you’re looking directly at it, it normally stays completely still. If you begin walking toward it, it disappears. It may also disappear once you look away.

Once it becomes hungry enough, it stops following that rule.

That’s when you should probably run.

Multiplayer

The mod works in multiplayer, and every player has their own hidden progression.

The creature doesn’t completely ignore everyone except the person who triggered the encounter. During a real hunt, it watches all nearby players and can change targets when someone else gets closer.

The mod and Fabric API need to be installed on the server and on every player’s client.

Villages

Villages are not exactly safe anymore.

I don't wanna spoil too much, just go check out a village

There are eight different diary stories to find.

If you want normal villages, you can disable this feature in the configuration.

Content warning

This mod contains jumpscares, loud sounds, blood, dead villagers, disturbing creature imagery, block destruction, and guaranteed player death if the final attack succeeds.

Seriously, back up important worlds before using it.

Installation

You need:

Minecraft Java 26.2

Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer

Fabric API 0.157.0+26.2

Java 25

Place The Hollowed and Fabric API inside your mods folder.

Make sure you remove older versions of The Hollowed before installing a new one.

Configuration

The configuration file is created after launching the mod once:

config/the-hollowed.properties

Some useful settings are:

eventIntensity=1.0 controls how frequently things happen.

jumpscares=true enables the full-screen jumpscare.

worldChanges=true allows environmental changes.

necessaryBlockBreaking=true allows the creature to destroy unavoidable obstacles.

villageAftermath=true enables dead villagers, blood, and diaries.

testCommand=true enables testing commands.

Block breaking also follows Minecraft’s mobGriefing game rule.

Restart Minecraft after changing the configuration.

Testing commands

These commands are completely optional and require cheats or operator permissions:

/hollowed-test spawn

/hollowed-test starving

/hollowed-test aftermath

/hollowed-test reset

You do not need to use any of these commands for the creature to appear naturally.

Compatibility

The Hollowed doesn’t patch Minecraft’s world generator and doesn’t use mixins, so it should work alongside most terrain and performance mods.

It was designed with modded survival worlds and multiplayer in mind, but obviously I can’t test every possible combination of mods. If something breaks, report what happened and include your latest log if possible.

Modpacks

You can include The Hollowed in CurseForge modpacks.
