The Hiders

This Horror Mod Will Make You Freeze Using Smart AI To Even Know Were Your House Is.

The Hiders

The Hiders is a survival-horror mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge that turns an ordinary survival world into a horror experience that gradually becomes more hostile the longer you survive.

Instead of simply adding monsters that randomly attack the player, The Hiders introduces creatures and world systems that observe your behavior, remember what you do, interfere with your base, corrupt the environment, and change the world around you.

The horror begins slowly. You may notice something watching from the trees, strange changes around your home, unusual sounds, or creatures behaving incorrectly. As the corruption progresses, the world becomes darker and more dangerous until the player must discover how to permanently end the haunting.

The Watcher

The Watcher is one of the main threats in the mod.

It is designed around stalking and observation rather than constantly rushing directly at the player. It can appear at a distance, watch from around trees, retreat, hunt, and return during later encounters.

The Watcher also has a persistent learning system. It records information about how the player survives, including things such as:

  • reliance on light
  • sprinting and escaping
  • sheltering inside structures
  • using shields and defensive strategies
  • sleeping
  • building blocks and barriers
  • locations where the player has built
  • previous encounters and escapes

Because of this system, encounters can change as the world continues.

The Watcher can also interact with the environment. Depending on configuration and the situation, it can break player lights, interfere with doors and shelter blocks, build upward to reach players, spy through windows, recognize likely player houses, alter structures, and create disturbing constructions of its own.

This means hiding inside the same safe house every night is not always a permanent solution.

The Hider

The Hider is a separate night encounter with its own mechanics.

When a Hider encounter begins, the player receives a warning:

THE HIDER IS 500 BLOCKS AWAY

A distance indicator then tracks its approach.

At first the distance falls slowly, but the Hider begins approaching faster and faster. As it gets closer, the warning becomes increasingly urgent.

When the distance reaches zero, the approach becomes a direct chase.

Surviving is not simply about fighting it. Players need to react to the encounter, use the world around them, and survive until the Hider gives up or daylight interrupts the event.

Completing a successful ward can force The Hider farther away, but ordinary wards cannot permanently remove it.

Progressive World Corruption

The horror is tied to a world-wide corruption system.

The corruption progresses through six stages:

Unmarked → Pale Day → Long Shadows → False Dusk → Black Noon → Red Silence

These stages are more than names. As corruption rises, the atmosphere and gameplay change.

Daylight gradually begins to look wrong. Shadows, skies, ambience, encounters, world corruption and hostile events become increasingly severe.

By the later stages, even daytime is no longer guaranteed to feel safe.

Actions connected to the horror can accelerate corruption, while completing wards can slow it down slightly.

This gives the mod long-term progression instead of making every night identical.

Nightmare Worlds

The Watcher can eventually pull players out of the normal world and into dedicated nightmare dimensions.

The mod contains both a Nightmare and a Blood Nightmare environment.

Nightmare encounters can generate maze-like arenas where the player must find the correct route while hostile creatures are present.

Scattered blue lights help lead toward the escape point. The player must reach the area marked by four flames and a Blood Sigil to return.

The maze can change, hostile entities can enter it, and the mod remembers where the player was taken from so they can be returned to the normal world afterward.

These encounters give the horror consequences beyond simply losing health in the Overworld.

The Hollowed

Villagers are not completely safe from the horror.

The Watcher can infect villagers and transform them into The Hollowed.

Infection can spread further if the situation is allowed to get out of control, turning previously safe villages into another source of danger.

Protecting villagers can therefore become part of surviving the corruption.

The Wronged

Normal creatures can also become corrupted into creatures known as The Wronged.

These are hostile corrupted beings connected to the spreading horror and can appear as the world deteriorates.

The goal is to make familiar Minecraft creatures and locations gradually feel less trustworthy as the corruption becomes stronger.

Ecological Collapse

At higher corruption stages, the horror begins affecting creatures that are not directly attacking the player.

Undead mobs can begin disappearing.

Later, livestock and other animals can also become targets.

Instead of simply vanishing, victims may leave behind Butchered Remains, creating evidence that something has been hunting nearby.

Different remains exist for creatures such as zombies, skeletons, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits and goats.

Some animal remains can be searched to recover usable food before they disappear.

Named animals and other protected animals can be excluded from parts of this system depending on the mod's settings.

This system makes corruption visible in the world even when the player does not directly witness an attack.

Ritual System

Players are not completely helpless.

The mod contains several rituals centered around the Blood Sigil.

Warding Ritual

A Blood Sigil surrounded by Soul Torches can be activated with an Amethyst Shard.

A successful ward temporarily drives nearby Watchers away and can push The Hider farther from the player.

It provides breathing room, but it does not permanently end the horror.

Calling Ritual

Players who want to deliberately confront the horror can perform a separate calling ritual using candles and a Sealed Blood Vial.

This allows players to intentionally interact with the encounter system rather than relying only on random appearances.

Final Severance Ritual

The mod also has an actual end goal.

Players can craft the Severance Idol and discover the final ritual.

Performing the correct ritual at night using a Blood Sigil, Crying Obsidian and the Severance Idol permanently severs the horror from that world.

After completing it, the Watchers, Hiders, Hollowed and Wronged are removed, the remaining evidence disappears, normal sleep returns, and the world records that the player has defeated the haunting.

This gives survival worlds a complete horror progression with a final objective instead of endless random attacks.

The Night Laws

Players can discover The Night Laws, an in-game journal containing information about the creatures and mechanics.

The journal gradually explains things such as:

  • how The Watcher behaves
  • how wards work
  • how to summon the horror
  • how nightmare escapes work
  • corruption stages
  • The Hider's approach
  • ecological collapse
  • how to craft the Severance Idol
  • how to perform the final ritual

This allows the mod's mechanics to be learned through the horror experience rather than requiring players to know everything before starting.

Atmosphere and Audio

The Hiders includes custom horror audio and music systems.

Different music is used for corrupted Overworld gameplay, nightmare encounters, Blood Nightmare encounters and The Hider's approach.

The corruption system also changes the visual atmosphere of the world as its stages increase.

The intention is to create tension through anticipation and environmental changes, not simply by spawning large numbers of hostile mobs around the player.

What The Hiders Changes About Minecraft

In normal Minecraft, a well-lit house usually becomes a permanently safe location.

The Hiders is designed to challenge that expectation.

Your shelter can be remembered. Lights can become targets. Villagers can become infected. Creatures can disappear. Strange structures can appear near places you use. The sky progressively changes, and eventually the player can be dragged into entirely separate nightmare environments.

The result is a survival-horror experience where the player's world develops a history and the threat becomes more noticeable over time.
