Corpse Stalker β€” Unofficial 1.20.1 Port

⚠️ This is an unofficial port. All credit for the original mod goes to flamcO4 and the respective original authors. This port was created by Tick Hosting solely to make the mod available on Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Please support the original creator!

Welcome to the Corpse Stalker! This mod introduces an advanced and terrifying hostile entity. Inspired by the classic Cave Dweller, this creature has been redesigned with a unique model, custom sounds, and advanced chasing mechanics to bring your worst nightmares to life in the depths of Minecraft.

Hunt. Overwhelm. Terrify.

The Corpse Stalker lurks in the darkness. If you hear its heavy footsteps or its distorted, ghostly screams echoing through the caves… it's already too late.

πŸ’€ Main Features

1. Spawning Mechanics

The Corpse Stalker does not appear like a normal mob, but follows precise rules to maximize tension:

Light and Depth Conditions: By default, it spawns below sea level (Y = 40 or lower) and in completely dark areas.

Cooldown and Timer: Its spawn is not instantaneous. There is a minimum and maximum time between appearances (5 to 10 minutes by default), with the possibility of long "cooldown" periods (up to 20 minutes) to keep anxiety high without being frustrating.

Path Checking: Before spawning, the game checks if there is a valid path to reach the player, preventing it from getting stuck in isolated caves.

Surface Spawning: Can be enabled via configuration, allowing the stalker to spawn outside of caves (configurable via whitelist/blacklist of specific biomes).

Spawn Limit: There can only be a limited number of Corpse Stalkers simultaneously in the world (3 by default).

2. Dynamic Behavior (Rolls)

The stalker's AI does not just attack on sight. When it spots a player, it randomly chooses a "role" or action to perform:

Stroll: Wanders around creepily.

Stare: Stops and stares at the player from a distance, disappearing if you get too close.

Flee: Runs away quickly after being spotted or hit.

Chase: Begins a ruthless and relentless hunt for the player.

3. Extraordinary Movement Capabilities

The Corpse Stalker is designed to overcome normal Minecraft obstacles:

Dimensional Adaptation (Crouch & Crawl): If a passage is 2 blocks high, the entity crouches. If the passage is only 1 block high, it crawls on the ground, shrinking its hitbox to chase the player even in the narrowest tunnels (e.g., 1x1 tunnels).

Advanced Climbing: If you try to save yourself on a pillar or high ground, the Stalker can stick to walls and climb vertically thanks to a "sticky climbing" system that allows it to overcome small ledges without falling.

Swimming: It is capable of swimming and diving if its target is in the water.

4. Environmental Destruction (Block Breaking)

To prevent the player from barricading themselves safely:

Block Breaking: During a chase, the Stalker can break blocks blocking its path (up to a configurable hardness, e.g., dirt, wood, base stone).

Underground Follow: If it cannot find an open path, it will start digging towards you through the rock.

Breaking Doors: It can smash through wooden doors in mere seconds, automatically crouching to pass through the door space without getting stuck.

5. Combat and Player Reaction

Adaptive Damage: One of its deadliest mechanics. The Corpse Stalker deals bonus damage to players wearing heavy armor (e.g., full Iron or better) or high Protection enchantments. The more protected you are, the harder it hits.

Shield Disabling: It has the ability to temporarily disable shields (like an axe or Vindicator).

Spotting: If you stare at the Corpse Stalker (within 60 blocks), the entity will notice, triggering a creepy audio effect. If it was invisible, it will break invisibility, often triggering an immediate chase or flee.

Knockback Resistance: Passively reduces knockback taken from swords, and is completely immune to knockback while climbing a wall.

6. Sound Effects and Atmosphere

The sound design is tailored to create psychological horror:

Sends unsettling ambient noises (Cave Sounds) targeted exclusively at the hunted player.

Footsteps during a chase (Chase Steps) are heavy, rapid, and terrifying.

It has a specific scream for every situation: when fleeing (Flee), when spotted (Spotted), and when it disappears or dies.
