What's new

THE COMPOUND V — 3.1.4-r

THE COMPLETE 3.1 UPDATE

Everything you've missed since 3.0.0.

It's been a while, CurseForge!

While updates continued on Modrinth, the CurseForge release remained on 3.0.0.

Instead of uploading every intermediate version separately, we're bringing everything together in one release.

Two new playable strains, an entirely new Conduit element, expanded Karma mechanics, major power overhauls, improved movement and combat, redesigned interfaces, performance optimizations and a new serum acquisition balance.

This is the complete 3.1 experience.

1. TWO NEW POWERS — MIDAS & VESSEL

MIDAS — The Golden Touch

A permanent Compound V strain focused on transmutation.

  • Transform living targets into gold through direct attacks.

  • Gradually develop golden tissue, increasing durability at the cost of mobility.

  • Unlock Auric Plating, Aurum Lock and Chained Gilding.

  • Dedicated 10-node skill tree.

  • Unique progression built around generating gold.

  • Zinc can suppress its protective properties.

VESSEL — Borrowed Power

A new Pure V Special that can temporarily take and use the powers of other V carriers.

  • Siphon powers from compatible players and V-exposed creatures.

  • Wear one borrowed power at a time.

  • Collect permanent genetic Traces.

  • Reuse previously collected powers through Echo.

  • Detect nearby V carriers with Read the Blood.

  • Manage Strain while maintaining borrowed abilities.

  • Dedicated 15-node skill tree.

Vessel does not permanently erase a donor's abilities.

Your collection depends on the powered beings you encounter.

2. NEON — THE THIRD CONDUIT ELEMENT

Smoke. Video. And now, Neon.

Neon introduces a complete light-based combat and movement system.

Abilities

  • Light Speed — high-speed movement and wall running.

  • Photon Jump — launch yourself during Light Speed.

  • Neon Beam — precision attacks.

  • Phosphor Beam — powerful charged attacks.

  • Stasis Bubble — temporarily suspend groups of enemies.

  • Homing Missiles.

  • Neon Melee and Air Strike.

  • Radiant Event Ultimate, with different outcomes depending on Karma.

Neon launches with 62 skill nodes across 10 branches.

Light Absorption

Neon can drain energy from:

  • Sea Lanterns

  • Glowstone

  • Froglights

  • Amethyst Blocks

  • Budding Amethyst

  • Improved movement responsiveness.

  • Better handling of short jump inputs.

  • Smoother traversal restarts.

  • Improved swimming animation compatibility.

  • Reworked sound effects.

  • Optimized Neon trails and body effects.

3. CONDUIT KARMA EXPANSION

The Conduit Karma system has received a significant overhaul.

Your actions now have a greater impact on progression.

Wounded enemies can present contextual choices, allowing different interactions depending on your active element and Karma path.

Smoke, Video and Neon each have their own variations.

Other world actions, including civilian interactions, rescues and combat decisions, also contribute to Karma progression.

Karma Balance Changes

  • Base Karma progression now requires eight times more effort.

  • Repeated actions can no longer be exploited for unlimited Karma.

  • Streak requirements and cooldowns have been adjusted.

  • Partial progression is saved correctly.

  • Existing ranks and thresholds remain preserved.

New Interface

  • Redesigned minimal Karma HUD.

  • Unique crosshairs for Smoke, Video and Neon.

  • Better weak-point indicators.

  • Improved Karma notifications.

4. VIDEO — VISUAL & GAMEPLAY OVERHAUL

Video received extensive visual improvements.

Its abilities now use a more consistent digital-light identity, with visuals that respond to the player's Karma.

Highlights include:

X-Ray Vision

The previous simplified X-Ray presentation has been replaced with a detailed anatomy-based rendering system.

Supported creatures now display body-appropriate skeletal representations and animated hearts.

6. HEAT VISION, RADIOACTIVE & FLIGHT

Heat Vision

  • Redesigned beam visuals.

  • Improved collision accuracy.

  • Environmental interactions, including block heating and destruction.

  • Improved beam clashes.

  • Configurable beam behavior.

The previous slim resource bar has been replaced with ten resource icons displayed above the food bar.

Features include:

  • Unique icons for every Conduit element.

  • Half-filled resource indicators.

  • Animated resource consumption.

  • Regeneration feedback.

  • Low-energy warnings.

  • Improved secondary-resource indicators.

  • Automatic positioning around underwater air bubbles.

Neon also displays its Phosphor Charges, Missiles, Focus and Ultimate progression.

10. PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATIONS

Major rendering optimizations have been introduced throughout the 3.1 series.

Improvements include:

  • More efficient Neon trail generation.

11. ACQUISITION REBALANCE — 3.1.4-r

The newest update focuses on rebalancing how V-related items are discovered through world exploration.

Serum Distribution

Updated acquisition rates for:

  • Compound V

  • Temp V

  • Pure V

  • V Samples

  • Research Notes

Different structures now provide different opportunities for acquiring experimental V items.

Strongholds and Ancient Cities have received loot adjustments.

Unstable V now follows a revised descending rarity distribution across six eligible loot sources.

Eligible reward pools use independent rolls, allowing separate loot categories to retain their own acquisition chances.

Exploration and structure selection now play a greater role in acquiring V.

12. IMPORTANT WORLDGEN CHANGE

The old Vought Research Facility has been removed from world generation.

Previously generated facilities remain in existing worlds as ordinary structures.

Vought Research Notes are still obtainable from supported loot sources.

The Research Log and Cult of Whispers offering progression remain available.
