TFC Fake Eternal Fires

Fake campfires for TerraFirmaCraft: they burn forever, light the room and smoke — and cook nothing. Decoration that cannot be put out, mistaken for a working firepit, or fed by a hopper.

Description

TFC Fake Eternal Fires

Campfires that are only scenery. They burn forever, light the room and smoke like the real thing — and nothing can ever be cooked on them.

A real firepit inside a build is a working device: it wants fuel, it goes out in the rain, it invites right-clicks, and hoppers try to feed it. These do none of that — put one in a tavern, a shrine, a mine entrance or a longhouse and forget about it.

They are not harmless, though. A fire in TerraFirmaCraft burns what stands in it and sets its surroundings alight, and these do both, because a decoration that quietly behaved more safely than the real thing would be the surprising option. Both parts can be turned off — see Settings.

✨ What it adds

Block Light level Looks like
Eternal Campfire 15 a lit vanilla campfire
Eternal Soul Campfire 10 a lit vanilla soul campfire

Both sit in their own creative tab.

They look exactly right. The blocks are built on Minecraft's own campfire model template and use its textures rather than shipping copies, so your resource pack applies to them, the logs orient themselves when you place them, they crackle, and the smoke is vanilla's own particle code — not an imitation of it.

The signal-fire trick still works. Place one on a hay bale and the smoke climbs high enough to mark a location, exactly as players already expect.

Nothing to switch off. No cooking, because there is no inventory to cook in: right-clicking does nothing and a hopper has nowhere to insert. No going out — not by shovel, not by water, not by rain, and not by lava, which destroys an ordinary campfire. No fuel, no lighting: they arrive lit and stay lit.

They are still fire, and it spreads. Standing in one hurts: 1 damage from the plain block and 2 from the soul one, the same numbers as the vanilla campfires they imitate, and Frost Walker protects you. They also set the neighbourhood alight, the way every lit TerraFirmaCraft device does. How it works, exactly:

  • On a random tick — which reaches any given block every few minutes, not every tick — the fire looks for an empty spot up to 2 blocks sideways and 1 block up.
  • If that spot is next to something flammable, fire starts there. Nothing is set alight through stone, and the fire never eats the block it stands on.
  • The world's doFireTick game rule is respected, so /gamerule doFireTick false stops it dead.

That is the same reach TFC's own firepit and charcoal forge use. The difference worth knowing: a firepit stops being dangerous when its fuel burns out, and these never burn out — so one standing on a wooden floor will keep re-lighting that floor for as long as the world exists. If that is not what you want, one setting turns it off; see below.

They break and pick back up like any block, and they drop themselves rather than charcoal.

⚙️ Settings

config/tfc_eternal_fires-common.toml, [fire]:

Setting Default What it does
burnEntities true Hurts living things standing in the fire. Off makes them completely safe scenery.
igniteNearbyBlocks true Spreads fire to flammable blocks within 2, as a lit TFC firepit does. Respects doFireTick.

Both are on because that is what fire does in TerraFirmaCraft — a lit firepit or charcoal forge spreads fire from its own random tick, at the same radius. Turn the second one off for anything you build indoors: a firepit stops being dangerous when its fuel runs out, and these never stop, so one on a wooden floor will keep re-lighting it forever.

🔨 Crafting

Not a casual craft, but not a late-game trophy either — the plain one is reachable as soon as you have copper and an anvil.

Eternal Campfire

image

Eternal Soul Campfire — no fuel in it at all, and the gem has to be blue:

image

One fire clay is 4 kaolinite powder + 4 graphite powder + 1 clay ball, and a fire brick is fire clay knapped and fired at 1399 °C, so the lower two rows alone come to roughly five fire clay - about 20 kaolinite and 20 graphite powder of quern work. Two copper sheets are four ingots plus welding and hammering. What it is not is gated behind a lucky find: nothing in the plain recipe needs a rare vein, while the showier blue variant stays behind steel, and therefore behind a blast furnace.

Ingredients are matched by tag where TerraFirmaCraft provides one (forge:sheets/copper, forge:sheets/steel, forge:gems/lapis), so another mod's copper sheet or lapis works just as well.

🧩 Compatibility

The mod adds two blocks, their items and two recipes. No entities, no network packets, no mixins into anybody else's code, and no changes to existing blocks or recipes — so there is nothing for another mod to conflict with.

Install it on both the client and the server: the blocks are real blocks and the recipes are server-side data. All the particle and sound work happens on the client, so a dedicated server never ticks these however many are placed.

📋 Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Mod loader Forge 47.x
  • TerraFirmaCraft required — the recipes are made of its materials

🌍 Languages

English and Russian.

💬 Feedback

Suggestions welcome. If you want a variant this does not have — a brazier, a hidden emitter with no visible logs, a version that damages entities after all — say so; the mod is deliberately small and easy to add to.
