Texture Studio

Create blocks, paint textures in 2D and 3D, edit models, and add Survival recipes inside Minecraft.

Texture Studio

Turn an idea into a textured block—without leaving your world.

Texture Studio is an in-game creative workshop for Minecraft Java Edition. Paint textures, shape your own cuboid models, and create custom blocks and inventory items from the Minecraft options menu.

Make it yours

  • Paint in 2D, 3D, or split view. Draw on the flat texture or directly on supported 3D surfaces. Choose body parts and follow UV guides when repainting animals.
  • Create placeable blocks. Set a name, identifier, hardness, blast resistance, and light level.
  • Create inventory items. Design custom handheld items with your own texture and cuboid model. Inventory items are separate from placeable blocks.
  • Build with cuboids. Add pieces, duplicate them at the same position, resize them, and move the selected piece using X/Y/Z arrow controls.
  • Add optional Survival recipes. Arrange existing item IDs in a 3 x 3 crafting grid and choose the output count.
  • Apply while playing. New live creations, textures, recipes, and model collision update on save. A short resource reload may appear; Minecraft stays open.
  • Learn in three languages. An indexed guidebook and a scrolling manual explain the tools in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Getting started

  1. Install Minecraft Forge for the matching Minecraft version.
  2. Put the Texture Studio JAR in your instance's mods folder and launch the game.
  3. Enter a world, then open Escape > Options > Create textures.
  4. Choose Create block, Create item, or Change texture.
  5. Paint, adjust the model or optional recipe under Tools, and select Save and apply.
  6. Find new blocks under Creative Building Blocks, and new inventory items under Ingredients, or search for their names.

Installing or upgrading the mod requires restarting Minecraft once. Normal edits and new live creations do not.

Multiplayer: experimental

The LAN host owns the world's shared texture collection. Guests start with editing locked and can send a permission request. The owner can allow, deny, or revoke editing. The server checks permission again for each save, and permission expires when the guest disconnects or the server restarts.

Everyone must use the same Texture Studio version. New live creations synchronize with the world; older creations made before 0.5 still require matching legacy definitions. Dedicated servers must configure the owner's UUID in the world's texturestudio/owner.txt file.

Multiplayer permission and resource-transfer logic has automated test coverage, but a real two-computer session has not yet been validated. This release is a beta.

Current release and limits

  • Currently tested: Minecraft Java 26.3, Forge 66.1.0, Java 25.
  • Older Minecraft versions: not included in this download. Separate ports are required; this JAR does not support Minecraft 1.14–1.21 or other unlisted versions.
  • Up to 128 new live blocks and 128 new live inventory items per world.
  • Textures support 1–128 pixels per side; custom models support up to 64 cuboids, within a 16-unit block space.
  • Some animal variants support only 2D editing. Animal geometry is preserved; special vanilla item models may differ from the editor's sprite preview.
  • Shared world resources are limited to 8 MB. Changes made through Texture Studio are permission-controlled; unrelated resource packs and modified clients remain outside that control.
  • Edits made outside a world are local. To change an existing world's collection, open the editor from inside that world.

The download contains the mod, not your worlds or generated texture packs. Keep the world's Texture Studio data with the world when moving your creations to another installation.

Texture Studio is an independent project. It is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
