TerrainGraph

TerrainGraph is a Minecraft optimization mod that reduces CPU overhead and loading wait times by reducing redundant calculations and temporary object allocations in chunk generation, making exploration and teleportation smoother.

TerrainGraph is a Minecraft performance mod focused on optimizing terrain and chunk generation. By reducing redundant calculations and temporary object allocations during the generation process, it lowers CPU overhead and memory allocation pressure, shortens the wait time when generating new chunks, and improves smoothness during exploration, running around, and teleportation. It is suitable for both single-player games and multiplayer servers, and is especially well-suited for modpacks with high terrain generation loads.

It is suitable for modpacks where structure mods frequently query terrain and incur high repeated initialization overhead. It can reduce redundant calculations and object allocations when generating new chunks, improving wait times during exploration and teleportation to new areas. It supports both single-player games and multiplayer servers, and the actual benefit depends on the world generation load and the coverage of other optimization mods.

Since higher versions such as 1.21.1 and above already have similar optimizations in C2ME and Lithostitched, this project is only recommended for installation in large modpacks that do not use C2ME and use lower versions of Lithostitched.

Taking the Gear Feast modpack (Create:Delight Remake) as an example

Average Gain per Teleport

Test Path Metric Both Disabled Both Enabled Reduction
ByePregrn DFC Enabled Teleport Wait 4.747 s 1.009 s 3.738 s less, 78.7% reduction
ByePregrn DFC Enabled Cumulative Object Allocation 7.435 GB 0.760 GB 6.676 GB less, 89.8% reduction
DFC Disabled, Vanilla Entrance Teleport Wait 5.135 s 1.040 s 4.094 s less, 79.7% reduction
DFC Disabled, Vanilla Entrance Cumulative Object Allocation 7.859 GB 0.847 GB 7.012 GB less, 89.2% reduction

Total for Eight Teleports

The baseline and optimized groups were each tested eight times per path, with the results as follows:

Test Path Metric Both Disabled Both Enabled Total Reduction
DFC Enabled Wait Time 37.973 s 8.072 s 29.901 s
DFC Enabled Cumulative Object Allocation 59.481 GB 6.077 GB 53.404 GB
DFC Disabled Wait Time 41.078 s 8.323 s 32.755 s
DFC Disabled Cumulative Object Allocation 62.874 GB 6.777 GB 56.097 GB

Results by Destination

Coordinates are x=z. The table below shows the average of two independent runs; the arrow indicates the transition from optimization disabled to optimization enabled.
