TD Planter

TDPlanter is a modular farming mod featuring automated crop growth, configurable tiers, filters, material designs, FE-powered upgrades, hopper automation, datapack recipes, and optional mod integrations.

TD Planter is a modular, data-driven farming system built around a single universal planter. It supports crops, saplings, compact tree displays, configurable growth conditions, manual harvesting, automated production, upgradeable tiers, interchangeable material designs, output filtering, energy-powered growth and extensive datapack customization.

Farming and Growth

Soil and seeds are inserted manually, keeping crop selection under the player’s control. Once a valid combination is installed, the planter displays the growing plant and progresses through its configured growth cycle.

Growth recipes can define:

  • Compatible seeds and soils
  • Growth duration
  • Field-crop or compact bonsai rendering
  • Visual growth stages
  • Guaranteed and chance-based drops
  • Minimum and maximum drop amounts
  • Logical drop groups
  • Required tools
  • Light, dimension, biome, temperature, weather and hood conditions
  • Recipe priorities and explicit recipe disabling

A finished planter can be harvested manually. With the Hopper Module installed, harvesting and output handling become automatic. If the output inventory cannot hold the complete harvest, the planter waits at full progress without consuming fertilizer, damaging tools or dropping excess items into the world.

Tools and Fertilizer

Optional tool and fertilizer slots provide additional control over production:

  • Hoes can increase growth speed.
  • Shears can unlock leaves and other tool-dependent drops.
  • Fertilizer increases the resulting yield.
  • Fertilizer consumption can occur per harvest, after a configured number of cycles or be disabled completely.

The exact effects, consumption rules and limits can be adjusted through configuration and datapack recipes.

Modular Automation

TDPlanter separates automation into dedicated modules:

  • The Hopper Module enables automatic harvesting, tool and fertilizer resupply, internal output storage and downward item extraction.
  • The Glass Hood turns the planter into a two-block structure and provides an additional growth modifier.
  • The Growth Lamp installs into the hood and provides an energy-powered growth bonus.
  • The Filter Module controls which harvest results may enter the output inventory.

Soil and seed slots always remain manual. Automation only handles hoes, shears, fertilizer and harvested output. Energy is accepted through the dedicated connection on the rear of the planter while a Growth Lamp is installed.

Output Filtering

The configurable Filter Module supports whitelist and blocklist modes. Filters can contain:

  • Exact items
  • Item tags
  • Logical drop groups such as crops, logs, leaves, saplings or sticks

The module has its own configuration interface and can be prepared before being inserted into a planter. Supported recipe viewers can add filter entries through ghost ingredients or drag and drop. Removing the Filter Module returns the planter to unfiltered output handling.

Tiers and Material Designs

Every planter can progress through four tiers:

  • Basic
  • Advanced
  • Elite
  • Ultra

Higher tiers can improve growth speed, yield, output capacity, energy storage and energy intake. Tier values and energy costs are configurable.

The visual material is independent of the tier. Datapacks can define additional material transformations using standard or custom blocks. Tier upgrades and material changes can be applied through crafting or directly in the world.

Transformations preserve the planter’s inventory, installed modules, filter configuration, stored energy and growth progress.

Waxing and State Preservation

A planter can be waxed to preserve its selected state and visual appearance. Its complete state is also retained when it is moved, including its tier, material, modules, inventory, energy, filter and growth progress.

Datapack Support

TDPlanter provides five custom, reloadable recipe types:

  • tdplanter:growth defines crops, trees, conditions, growth time, rendering and drops.
  • tdplanter:soil defines valid soils, soil classes and growth modifiers.
  • tdplanter:fertilizer defines fertilizers, yield bonuses and consumption behavior.
  • tdplanter:interaction defines data-driven planter interactions.
  • tdplanter:transform defines tier upgrades and material transformations.

Recipes use normal JSON files and standard item or tag ingredients. Explicit growth definitions support priorities, deterministic selection and ambiguity reporting. Invalid definitions are reported without silently producing random results.

Datapack recipe changes can be applied with /reload.

KubeJS and Bulk Recipe Generation

Optional KubeJS integration exposes schemas for all five TDPlanter recipe types. Scripts can create the same recipes as regular datapack JSON without modifying TDPlanter itself.

Large recipe collections can also be maintained through an external generation workflow. A generator can read a CSV, JSON or YAML dataset and produce complete TDPlanter recipe files for a datapack. This makes it practical to manage large crop collections while keeping the generated recipes reviewable, reproducible and reloadable.

TDPlanter does not currently provide a runtime command that automatically generates every crop recipe. Explicit datapack or KubeJS definitions remain the reliable way to control supported plants, drops and balancing.

Interface and Integrations

The planter interface displays its tier, installed modules, input slots, output storage, growth progress, current status and stored energy when applicable.

Optional integrations include:

  • JEI, EMI and REI support for Filter Module drag-and-drop
  • Jade information for tier, installed modules and energy
  • Automatic KubeJS schema discovery
  • English and German localization

Diagnostics

Read-only diagnostic commands help inspect recipe loading and unsupported or conflicting definitions:

  • /tdplanter diagnose held
  • /tdplanter diagnose block
  • /tdplanter diagnose definitions
  • /tdplanter reload-report

These tools report the current planter state, resolved definitions, ambiguities and reload results without modifying inventories, recipes or blocks.

TDPlanter combines compact farming, controlled automation and a fully data-driven recipe system while allowing modpacks to define their own crops, soils, fertilizers, interactions, upgrades and visual materials.
