You are not alone in your world. Someone named Steve just joined the game...

The story

1. Steve joins. He appears in the player list and in chat like a real player. A friendly Steve walks with you, builds a crafting table, crafts things for you, and you can talk to him.
2. Be nice. Hit him and he stares at you. Say sorry and he forgives you. Hit him too much and kill him... and everything changes.
3. A bloody Steve watches you. Far away, always staring. He leaves signs with your coordinates and biome, and a written note.
4. The chase. HE IS AWAY FROM YOU: 200 BLOCKS - the number drops by 1, then 2, 4, 8, 16... and then rushes to zero. The chase lasts exactly as long as the song and ends with a huge jumpscare. You cannot break or place blocks during it.
5. Sleep. You wake up in a strange world of giant stone blocks and dark houses. A black person comes out of a house, the door closes behind it, and it runs at you. You cannot die there - you wake up with all your items.
6. Caves are not empty. 1 to 3 strange black people may hunt you underground.

10 horror events

1. Steve chase - the 200-block countdown
2. Signs - Steve places signs with your coordinates
3. Watcher - bloody Steve stares from far away
4. null - a black entity that creeps closer when you look away
5. Blackout - torches vanish, you go blind for a moment
6. Phantom steps - footsteps behind you, a door slams
7. Sudden jumpscare - appears instantly, no warning, layered scream
8. Strange people - fast black people that hit hard
9. Strange world - the giant stone world
10. Fake chat - "Steve joined the game" and creepy messages

Every event can be switched on or off, and they can also happen randomly.

Talk to Steve (AI)

Type in chat near Steve, null or the bloody Steve and they answer.

• Steve can build a shelter, craft, give food / tools / torches, follow you or stay.
• Without any setup a simple built-in AI answers.
• Optional: put your own Google Gemini API key in the settings (default model gemini-3.5-flash-lite) for real conversations.

Privacy note: the Gemini feature is off until you enter your own key. When it is on, the chat message you write near an AI character is sent to Google's Gemini API. Your key is stored only in your local config file. Never share that file.

Jumpscares - with or without sound

Every jumpscare image can be configured to be silent or to scream. Jumpscares can use a layered scream for extra impact.

Settings

Open Strange Decisions Settings from the main menu or the pause menu (or Mods -> Config). You can change everything: chase distance, countdown steps, acceleration, music, each jumpscare (on/off, sound), the 10 events, the strange world, caves, AI key and model, and more. Everything is also in config/strangedecisions-common.toml.

Requirements

• Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge 36.2.x
• Install on the server and on every client.
• No other mods needed.

Notes

• If you die because of this mod, you keep your items (can be turned off).
• Works in single player, LAN and multiplayer.
• This mod is not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.
