StellarGyms

A server-authoritative Pixelmon gym system where winning players become the next AI-controlled gym defenders using exact copies of their teams.

StellarGyms

StellarGyms is a server-authoritative Pixelmon gym system where players compete to become the named leader of persistent, AI-controlled gyms.

When a challenger defeats a gym, the exact party they entered with is preserved and becomes the gym’s next defending team. Future challengers battle an AI-controlled copy of that team, while the winning player is displayed as the current gym leader.

Captured teams preserve their important Pixelmon data, including species, forms, palettes, shiny state, levels, IVs, EVs, natures, abilities, moves, PP, held items, ribbons, friendship, Poké Balls, Dynamax and Gigantamax data, and other persistent Pokémon properties.

Gym Succession

Each gym begins with an administrator-defined team.

When a player defeats the initial team:

  • The player becomes the named gym leader.
  • The party they entered with becomes the new defending team.
  • The configured initial-win reward is granted.

When another player defeats a player-derived team:

  • The challenger receives the configured conquest reward.
  • Any accumulated gym bounty is included.
  • The challenger becomes the new named leader.
  • Their entering party replaces the previous defending team.

The original administrator-defined team remains stored as the gym’s reset baseline.

Runtime defender Pokémon are copied and healed before battle. They receive temporary internal UUIDs so they cannot conflict with the real Pokémon owned by the leader.

Bounties and Anti-Farming

Player-controlled gyms can accumulate a bounty when challengers lose against them.

Repeated losses by the same challenger only increase the bounty after the configured cooldown has expired. This prevents players from repeatedly losing on purpose to inflate gym rewards.

Initial administrator teams do not accumulate bounties.

Progression

Featured Gyms

One valid gym is selected as the featured gym for each rotation.

A player’s first victory against the featured gym during that rotation grants the configured featured bonus. The rotation is stored persistently and cannot be rerolled by reconnecting.

Daily Circuit

Players can complete a daily circuit by defeating the configured number of different usable gyms.

Circuit progress:

  • Advances only when different gyms are defeated
  • Rewards the player once per completed circuit
  • Resets automatically at midnight UTC
  • Persists across restarts

Badge Cabinet

A player’s first clear of each gym permanently adds that gym to their badge collection.

Servers may optionally grant a physical badge item alongside the persistent badge entry.

Player Statistics

StellarGyms tracks:

  • Gym victories
  • Defense victories
  • Current challenger streak
  • Best challenger streak
  • Current defense streak
  • Best defense streak
  • Flawless victories
  • Featured gym victories
  • Gym-specific rivalry statistics
  • Badge ownership
  • Recent public battle activity
  • Leaderboard score and rank

Rewards

Each gym can define separate reward bundles for:

  • Initial team victories
  • Player-team conquests
  • Defender milestones
  • Featured gym victories
  • Daily circuit completion
  • First-time badge clears

Reward bundles can include:

  • PokéDollars or Vault currency
  • Player experience
  • Minecraft or modded item registry IDs
  • Console commands
  • Private messages
  • Server broadcasts

Reward commands support these placeholders:

  • {player}
  • {uuid}
  • {gym}
  • {leader}

Offline takeover and defense rewards are stored until the player logs in or uses /sg claim.

Economy Support

The economy mode can be configured as:

  • AUTO
  • PIXELMON
  • VAULT
  • NONE

AUTO

Attempts to use Pixelmon’s built-in bank system first, then checks for a compatible Vault economy provider.

PIXELMON

Uses Pixelmon PokéDollars.

VAULT

Uses the registered Vault economy provider on compatible hybrid NeoForge/Bukkit servers.

NONE

Disables money deposits while allowing non-money rewards such as items, experience, commands, and messages.

Servers can configure whether an unavailable economy causes the entire reward bundle to fail or only skips the money portion.

Optional Client Interface

The server mod contains all gameplay and does not require players to install a client companion.

Players without the client mod retain access through:

  • Commands
  • Gym NPCs
  • Vanilla paginated chest menus

The optional client companion adds:

  • A central gym navigation hub
  • Animated gym dossiers
  • Live leaderboards
  • Player profiles
  • Reward claims
  • Favorites and filters
  • Scrolling pages
  • Animated transitions
  • Eighteen Pokémon type identities
  • Ten gym frame themes
  • Four central menu worlds
  • Client sound controls
  • Reduced-motion accessibility settings

The server controls the active interface themes. Players may only change their local sound and reduced-motion preferences.

Main Menu Themes

The central menu supports four server-selected worlds:

  • cosmic_forge
  • chrono_garden
  • quantum_koi
  • aurora_engine

Players cannot override the server’s selected central menu theme.

Gym Types

Each gym can use one of Pixelmon’s eighteen standard types:

  • Normal
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Electric
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Fighting
  • Poison
  • Ground
  • Flying
  • Psychic
  • Bug
  • Rock
  • Ghost
  • Dragon
  • Dark
  • Steel
  • Fairy

The auto option selects a type using the gym’s configured requirements or its name and ID when possible.

Gym Frame Themes

Each gym can use one of ten visual frame styles:

  • astral_observatory
  • glass_menagerie
  • neon_metro
  • clockwork_vault
  • verdant_conservatory
  • abyssal_sonar
  • royal_tactics
  • arcade_gauntlet

Administrators can configure:

  • Gym ID and display name
  • Enabled state
  • Initial defending team
  • Battle rules
  • Access restrictions
  • Required Pokémon types
  • Gym type

  • Command rewards
  • Experience rewards

Notifications and Claims

StellarGyms maintains a persistent inbox for important gym events.

Players can receive notifications when:

  • They are replaced as a gym leader
  • They earn a defense milestone
  • An offline reward is queued
  • A takeover affects one of their gyms

Notifications and rewards remain available after server restarts.

Server-Authoritative Design

All battles, gym teams, rewards, progression, rankings, and permissions are controlled by the server.

The optional client interface only displays server-provided information and sends requested actions back to the server. Installing the client companion does not give players control over gym data, rewards, teams, or themes.
