What's new

Your starting needles (1.72.4)

  • You start with three needles: the Altar Needle, the new Cathedral Needle and the Gardens Needle are in your inventory the first time you join a world. If you've already played the world, you get them the next time you join. Use one and it points to its place.
  • New: the Cathedral Needle finds the Cathedral of the Hollow. Craft another from a compass, a purple stained glass pane and a candle.

Temperature fix (1.72.3)

  • Torches and lanterns in your hand keep you warm. Hold one in either hand: a torch alone gets you out of a freezing mountain night, and a torch and a lantern together keep you comfortable. Soul torches and soul lanterns do less.
  • Torches, lanterns, campfires, fires and furnaces near you warm you properly. A campfire beside you, or a few torches round you, bring you back to comfortable. Before, a campfire two blocks away still left you freezing.
  • They can't overheat you. Fires and lights only ever warm you back up to comfortable, never past it. A campfire in the desert used to push you into heatstroke. Lava and being on fire are still hot.
  • Shade keeps you cool. A block, a tree or a roof over your head takes a good part of the heat off, and indoors most of all. In the desert at noon you're far cooler in a hut than out in the sun. Glass lets the sun through.
  • You warm back up faster by a fire, and /statichollow ending vitals now shows how much your fire or torch is giving you.

Everything else since 1.63.3 is below. The full list is in the README inside the jar.

New in 1.72

  • The final boss, on the dragon's wings: after "NOW. I AM THE END." he takes to the air for a last flying phase with new aerial attacks. The last cutscenes have been reworked to look real.
  • His blade, fully modelled: a real 3D sword with a guard, the Undertow's teeth set into its edge and a living eye in it.
  • The dragon's skull, his helm: it now forms over his head as part of his armour, with jaws, fangs and swept-back horns.
  • Tune-In Town: leave the office and the night goes on (they come for you; survive to 6 AM). New command /statichollow tunein skipnights to jump to the Custom Night. A ladder out of the ball pit, for you and Tix. Death-scene camera fixes.
  • Chapter Ten: his first set now goes up on the third night, the knock at your door always comes on the third day, and his burrow tunnels lead to you.
  • Fixes: the Watcher no longer comes out of rock; the REFUSAL grab.

Since 1.63.3

  • Chapter Nine: The Harbinger (1.63.23): the Undertow turns, and the Dead Water story comes to its end.
  • Chapter Ten: Stay Tuned (1.64): The Broadcast, his kingdom, his creations let loose in your world, hiding from them, his sites (transmitters, burrows, sets) and Blackout gear, the strongest there is.
  • Tune-In Town Pizza & Playhouse (1.65, 1.71.1): a night-shift horror game in its own studio. Twelve animatronics, six nights and a Custom Night, cameras, doors and power, jumpscares and death scenes, a crew mode and rewards.
  • The Hollow's land (1.66): new places of its own across the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
  • The Last Broadcast (1.68 to 1.72): the final story in four parts. The Refusal, the Coronation and his arena, the Fall, and the Tearing in the End.
  • Voices and real footsteps (1.71.2 to 1.71.6).
  • The Dead Water, filled out (1.63.4 to 1.63.22): every water its own place, new creatures and crews, Orpheus's upgrades, and /locate and the compasses finding the story's places.

Bugs fixed

  • 129 of the mod's drop tables were being ignored, so creatures dropped the wrong things (two of the infected dropped nothing at all).
  • Around 130 blocks showed their raw name ("item.statichollow...") in your hand and inventory, and twelve items' descriptions were cut off after the first line.
  • Dying with the Enzyme or the Mycelia's spores in you didn't clear them.
  • Orpheus jumped back when you stood up from the helm, and her cabin looked flooded inside. The rig was set down a few blocks short.
  • Performance: less work on random ticks, on the sea's big creatures and while places are being built, and the land's places now have about half as much decoration, to go easier on memory.
  • Blackout armour didn't show on you at all.
  • The Watcher could come out of a hillside at your house; his burrow tunnels led nowhere; his first set was left to chance (it could take many nights); the knock at your door was nearly always skipped.
  • Tune-In Town's death scenes: the camera jumped, the night's HUD was drawn over them, third person threw the shot off, and your body was already on the floor before it touched you. There was no way out of the ball pit.
  • The throat-grab in the Refusal cutscene was held at the wrong height.
  • The last cutscenes' camera shake jumped every tick instead of moving smoothly.
