Shadows of the Void
Overview
Shadows of the Void overhauls Minecraft's standard survival loop by replacing predictable vanilla mob encounters with psychological horror, entity stalking mechanics, dynamic mob infections, and multiplayer administration tools.
Instead of simple light-level mob spawning and basic pathfinding, players face entities that track positioning from up to 50 blocks away, mimic player identities, and bypass traditional daylight safety rules.
Core Gameplay Changes
-
Altered Survival Paranoia: Safety is no longer guaranteed by building high or waiting for sunrise. Mobs actively stalk from outside regular engagement ranges, requiring players to constantly monitor their surroundings.
-
Disrupted Daylight Safety: Shadow-infected mobs gain full immunity to sunlight and wear dark gear, eliminating the standard vanilla expectation that daytime offers complete safety.
-
Identity Uncertainty in Multiplayer: Players can no longer trust seeing another player's skin in the distance. The mimicry system allows entities to copy player cosmetics and name tags, forcing players to verify teammates before approaching.
Detailed Entity Mechanics
-
The Stalker: Spawns silently between 25 and 50 blocks away from the player. It stands completely still while surrounded by glitch visual particles, observing player movement. Maintaining direct line-of-sight or closing the distance triggers a visual flash and horror audio jumpscare. Surviving the initial encounter grants the player temporary Speed and Jump Boost effects to allow a tactical escape.
-
Killermiller: A humanoid entity wielding a custom Knife. It maintains distance until stared at directly. Once aggroed, it plays a localized laugh sound effect, emits a red particle trail, and sprints toward the target. Defeating Killermiller drops the craftable/usable Knife item.
-
Lorman: A tall, pale entity with glowing purple eyes. Looking directly at Lorman causes it to immediately vanish into a thick fog cloud. In multiplayer, Lorman actively copies a targeted player's skin, model scale, and display name to blend in. It approaches under this disguise before reverting to its true form right before attacking.
-
Advanced Stalker: A high-corruption variant of the Stalker. As it tracks the player, any passive or hostile vanilla mobs entering its immediate radius are instantly disintegrated into dark particle effects, clearing the surrounding landscape of all life.
World Events & Dynamic Mechanics
-
Shadow Zombie Infection: Stalkers radiate an infection aura onto nearby vanilla Zombies. Infected zombies gain 40 Max HP, increased movement speed, high knockback resistance, daylight immunity, and full black armor.
-
Splitting Behavior: Slaying a Shadow Zombie causes it to split into 2 to 4 Mini Shadow baby zombies. These mini variants inflict magic damage over time and automatically decay after several seconds.
-
"THE VOID" Phase: A timed 90-second event. During this state, the active entity scales dramatically in height, updates its display tag to bold red text (
§4§l☠ THE VOID ☠), and aggressively paths toward all players in the chunk radius regardless of cover or obstacles.
Multiplayer & Server Features
-
Morph Command System: Server administrators or authorized players can transform into the Stalker model. The morph increases character scale to 2.2x height and 1.5x width with the glitch texture, while retaining standard player actions (block breaking, jumping, inventory access) along with built-in Night Vision and Fire Resistance.
-
Targeted Audio Events: Admins can trigger horror audio files directly to a specific player's client without playing the sound for the rest of the server.
-
Harmless Scares: Commands allow triggering fake lightning strikes and non-destructive visual explosions at a player's coordinates to create jumpscares without destroying world terrain or structures.
