Spotify Edit (blocklirycs)

Seen TikTok videos with lyrics appearing on screen? You used to need video editing skills to make them. Now this mod does it for you! Just play music on Spotify, and let the mod handle the rest.

BlockLyrics — Turn Your Gameplay Into a Music Edit

You've seen those TikTok videos where lyrics appear across the screen, moving with the music. Creating that effect used to mean editing your footage afterward.

BlockLyrics brings it into Minecraft while you play.

Start a song on Spotify in your browser, enter your world, and let the lyrics become part of your gameplay. No video editor, no manually placed text, and no need to prepare each song yourself.

What Does It Look Like?

BlockLyrics displays animated lyrics around the center of your screen, inspired by music edits.

Each line splits into two parts: the beginning appears on the left, and the ending appears on the right. Words gradually reveal as the line plays, with changing colors, gentle movement, and randomized placement.

The result is a moving lyric overlay that fits naturally into gameplay, whether you're exploring, building, or recording a clip.

Visual Features

  • Progressive word reveals instead of displaying the entire line at once.
  • Two-part layouts with the beginning on the left and the ending on the right.
  • Randomized positions, angles, and sizes between lines.
  • Smooth, bold typography with support for Cyrillic characters.
  • Gentle swaying and color transitions.
  • Clean text without a background box or drop shadow.
  • Animated fades when a line ends.
  • Movement-aware outgoing text: while you move, fading fragments briefly stay at virtual positions in front of the camera, creating the impression that you're passing through them.

The lyrics are displayed through the client HUD. They are not attached to blocks.

How It Works

BlockLyrics reads the current song and playback position from the Windows media session exposed by your browser.

It then searches YouTube Music for a matching song and retrieves available lyrics with timestamps. The text follows the playback position of the music you're listening to on Spotify.

You do not need to play the song on YouTube.

There is no separate account login inside the mod, no API key to configure, and no browser extension to install. Python and a separate server are not required.

Getting Started

  1. Open Spotify in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  2. Start playing a song.
  3. Launch Minecraft with BlockLyrics installed.
  4. Enter a world.
  5. Wait for the lyrics to load.

You can check the detected song and loading status at any time with:

/blocklyrics

Requirements

This release is built for:

  • Minecraft 26.2
  • Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer
  • Fabric API
  • Java 25
  • Windows
  • An internet connection that can access YouTube Music

BlockLyrics is a client-side mod. It does not require installation on the server.

Browser support depends on whether the player exposes the song title, artist, and playback position to Windows. Chrome and Edge are the recommended starting points.

Yandex Music may also work when its browser player supplies the required media information.

Installation

  1. Install Fabric for Minecraft 26.2.
  2. Install the matching version of Fabric API.
  3. Place the BlockLyrics .jar file in your Minecraft instance's mods folder.
  4. Remove any older BlockLyrics .jar before updating.
  5. Launch the game and start some music in your browser.

Commands

Command What It Does
/blocklyrics Shows the current song and lyric-loading status.
/blocklyrics show Enables lyric rendering.
/blocklyrics toggle Toggles lyric rendering on or off.
/blocklyrics retry Clears the lyric cache and repeats the search.
/blocklyrics debug Shows playback timing and rendering diagnostics.

/blocklyrics offset <seconds> Adjusts lyric timing from −30 to +30 seconds.
/blocklyrics font smooth Uses the included smooth font.
/blocklyrics font vanilla Uses Minecraft's default font.

Adjusting Synchronization

If the lyrics consistently appear too late, try:

/blocklyrics offset 1

If they consistently appear too early, try:

/blocklyrics offset -1

Positive values display lyrics earlier. Negative values display them later.

Lyrics and Timing

Lyrics depend on what is available from YouTube Music. Not every song has synchronized lyrics, even if a plain-text version exists elsewhere.

BlockLyrics checks the title and artists when selecting a recording. Track duration helps rank matching results, but a duration difference does not block the text from loading.

Different recordings can still have different timing. Live versions, remixes, shortened releases, and tracks with extra introductions may need an offset—or may not align throughout the entire song.

Line timing comes from the lyric source. Individual word reveals are estimated within each line. They are a visual animation, rather than exact word-by-word audio recognition.

Troubleshooting

The song is detected, but no lyrics appear

Check /blocklyrics for the loading status, then use:

/blocklyrics retry

Make sure rendering is enabled with:

/blocklyrics show

The mod does not detect my song

Make sure the browser is actively playing music. Try Chrome or Edge, and pause other music players that may be competing for the Windows media session.

I get a network error

The mod needs access to music.youtube.com from Windows or Java. A VPN that works only inside your browser may not provide connectivity to Minecraft.

I want to test the visuals without music

Use:

/blocklyrics demo on

The demonstration ends automatically after 20 seconds.

Privacy

BlockLyrics reads song metadata and playback timing through the Windows media session.

It does not read your browser history, passwords, or account cookies. Song metadata is sent to YouTube Music to find matching lyrics. The mod does not download or upload the song's audio.
