Spider Eggs and Breeding

Spider Eggs and Breeding expands Minecraft’s spiders with naturally generated spider nests, breedable spiders, hatchable eggs, webbing, hanging webs, cocoons, hunting behavior, and new spider-farming mechanics.

You can either discover Spider Eggs naturally inside underground spider nests or breed spiders to produce your own eggs, giving you both an exploration route and a farming route.

Spider Eggs & Breeding

• Spider Eggs generate naturally underground inside spider nests.

• You can also breed adult spiders to produce eggs.

• Regular Spider Eggs hatch into 2 baby spiders.

• Cave Spider Eggs hatch into 3 baby cave spiders.

• Naturally generated eggs behave differently from bred eggs and can be disturbed by the player.

• Eggs come in several visual variants, ranging from lightly webbed to heavily wrapped in white silk.

• Spider Eggs themselves are not destroyed by flowing water.

Moving Eggs

Spider Eggs can be collected using Shears and moved somewhere else.

When an egg is picked up, it keeps its existing hatch progress instead of resetting. Once placed again, it continues from where it left off.

Wild Spider Nests

Spider nests generate naturally underground around wild eggs.

These nests can contain:

• Spider Eggs

• Cave Spider Eggs

• Webbing

• Hanging Webs

• Vanilla Cobwebs

• Webbed Cocoons

The webbing and other nest decorations stay concentrated around the eggs, creating a localized spider nesting area instead of covering entire caves.

Webbing

Webbing is a thin, placeable web block that can attach to:

• Floors

• Walls

• Ceilings

• Corners

• Multiple faces of the same block space

Naturally generated Webbing can wrap around surfaces inside spider nests in the same way manually placed Webbing can.

Walking through Webbing slows most creatures, but Spiders and Cave Spiders are immune.

Breaking Webbing normally drops String, while using Shears lets you collect the Webbing itself.

Flowing water can wash Webbing away.

Hanging Webs

Hanging Webs generate from ceilings around spider nests and stretch downward in long strands.

Natural Hanging Webs can generate around 3–10 blocks long and connect vertically so longer strands look continuous.

They slow creatures moving through them, while Spiders and Cave Spiders remain unaffected.

Breaking them normally drops String, while Shears let you collect the Hanging Web itself.

Flowing water can wash Hanging Webs away.

Webbed Cocoons

Spider nests can also contain Webbed Cocoons.

They come in several visual variants and can generate as roughly 1–2 block-tall formations, helping nests feel more like active spider feeding areas.

Breaking a Webbed Cocoon always gives:

3 Bones

It can also contain:

• 1–5 Rotten Flesh

• 1–5 Raw Porkchops

• 1–5 Raw Beef

Each type of meat has its own chance to appear, so a single cocoon may contain more than one type of loot.

Webbed Cocoons use soft, squishy sounds, with a web-like sound when broken.

Flowing water can also wash them away.

Wild Egg Behavior

Naturally generated eggs do not behave exactly like eggs created through breeding.

Disturbing a wild egg by stepping on it or interacting with it without Shears can cause a baby spider to emerge.

This makes exploring nests a little more dangerous while still giving players the option to carefully collect the eggs.

Spider Hunting

Spiders can also hunt nearby Pigs and Cows.

This gives spiders more natural behavior and creates additional possibilities for spider farms and mob-based setups.

If you want help finding Spider Eggs, use:

/spideregg locate

This can help you search for naturally generated Spider Eggs in your world.

Spider Eggs and Breeding was designed with spider farming in mind.

You can explore for wild nests, collect eggs, breed spiders to produce more eggs, move eggs into your own farms, collect Webbing and Hanging Webs, and loot Webbed Cocoons.

The mod also pairs especially well with mods that add more uses for spiders and spider drops, such as Dungeon’s Delight and other food, farming, or dungeon-focused mods.
