Spawn Selector

Choose a safe first spawn outside a village or other structure, with configurable options, persistent choices, and optional Origins compatibility.

Spawn Selector

Choose where your adventure begins.

Spawn Selector lets new players choose a safe first spawn outside a village or another configured structure, facing the structure rather than spawning inside it.

Village spawning included by default

The default configuration includes Village as its only option, using Minecraft's village structure tag. You can use village spawning immediately, or add other structures through configuration.

Players choose a structure type, then select one of its discovered instances. They can also skip selection and use vanilla spawning.

Features

  • Safe outside spawning: checks terrain, fluids, collision, and the player's actual size.
  • Multiple structure instances: offer several locations for the same structure target.
  • Configurable capacity: make an instance exclusive, limit it to several players, or allow unlimited sharing.
  • Persistent choices: completed selections and instance claims survive server restarts.
  • Protected selection: new players wait in a holding dimension and remain protected until their destination is ready on the client.
  • Optional Origins compatibility: waits for Origins selection without replacing its interface; compatibility failures fall back independently for each player.
  • Custom configuration: supports structure IDs, structure tags, exclusions, styled JSON text, and English/Chinese translations.
  • Deferred vanilla spawn preparation: postpones unused vanilla spawn preparation until a player chooses to skip selection.

Compatibility and testing

Built for Minecraft 1.20.1.

Install the same version on the server and all clients. Origins is optional.

Singleplayer and multiplayer flows are implemented. Multiplayer has not yet received complete dedicated-server and real multi-client regression testing. Automated capacity, persistence, and build checks have passed, but they do not replace full gameplay testing.

Support for modded structures depends on their world-generation setup. Unknown custom structure placements fall back to vanilla single-instance locating.

Spawn Selector retains its own architecture and outside-spawn search; BetterVillageSpawnPoint's village-interior spawn search was not ported.
