Description

SoundSight

See the danger you can't hear. A creeper behind you doesn't care why your sound is off. SoundSight turns survival-critical audio into visual threat warnings — designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing players, useful for anyone who plays muted, mid-podcast, or headphones-in-music-up.

What it adds

  • Directional threat indicators — two styles. Ring (default): a 360° ring of marks around your crosshair, each at the threat's bearing. Edge: a glow hugging the screen edge nearest the threat. Severity is encoded three ways at once — color, shape, and pulse — so it never relies on color alone (colorblind-safe by construction). Indicators fade in fast, out gently, and a very close danger above or below you gets a small up/down arrow.
  • Beyond-hearing warnings (opt-in, on by default) — a proximity scanner flags nearby hostile mobs, even a silent creeper behind you, before they make a sound. One click for a strict "only what you'd have heard" experience.
  • Enhanced subtitles — recolors vanilla subtitles by threat, filters spam, pins the critical ones longer, tags dangers with a ⚠ icon.
  • Destructive-hazard marker — creepers, TNT, ghast fireballs get a distinct "hazard tape" strip, so you can tell a creeper from a skeleton at a glance.

Accessibility

  • Photosensitivity-safe: all flashing capped at ≤3 Hz (WCAG 2.3.1), with Reduced (≤1 Hz) and fully static modes.
  • Colorblind palettes: Default, Deuteranopia, Protanopia, Tritanopia, High-contrast, Monochrome — and because severity is also shape/pulse-encoded, palettes are cosmetic, never load-bearing.
  • One-click presets: Deaf/Hard-of-hearing, Muted, Minimal.

Fair play & compatibility

  • 100% client-side. No packets, no server component — works on any server, undetectably.
  • Mobs and world hazards only — never other players. A permanent policy, not a setting: it sidesteps ESP/radar fairness concerns entirely.
  • GUI-layer only — coexists with Sodium/Iris (world rendering is never touched) and minimaps like Xaero's. If a conflicting subtitle mod is installed, SoundSight's subtitle module auto-disables.

Before you install

  • Requires Minecraft 26.2Fabric LoaderFabric APIJava 25.
  • Client-side only — install it on your own client; nothing to add to the server.
  • Optional: Cloth Config + Mod Menu for the in-game settings screen. Without them SoundSight still runs, configured via config/soundsight.json (or bind the "Open SoundSight config" key, default J).
