Sol's Item Rarity v1.6

New Utility Perk system

Utility tools can now roll permanent, tiered perks when their rarity is assigned. Perks are stored on the item and shown in a dedicated Utility Perks tooltip section.

Rarity Utility perks
Common No perks
Uncommon 1 perk
Rare 1 perk, with a 35% chance for a second
Epic 2 perks
Legendary 2 perks, with a 50% chance for a third
Mythical 3 perks
Supreme 3 perks

Higher rarity improves the possible perk tier, but high tiers are intentionally rare. Supreme is the only rarity that guarantees Tier V:

Item rarity Utility perk tier chances
Uncommon Tier I 95%, Tier II 5%
Rare Tier I 70%, Tier II 27%, Tier III 3%
Epic Tier I 10%, Tier II 60%, Tier III 27%, Tier IV 3%
Legendary Tier II 10%, Tier III 60%, Tier IV 27%, Tier V 3%
Mythical Tier III 10%, Tier IV 65%, Tier V 25%
Supreme Tier V 100%

Perks shared by utility tools

Durability Guard

Whenever the tool would lose durability, Durability Guard has a chance to prevent that durability loss. It works on its own and does not require the Unbreaking enchantment.

Tier Save chance
I 6%
II 10%
III 15%
IV 21%
V 28%

Durability Guard does not increase the maximum durability number shown on the item. Instead, it makes the existing durability last longer.

Example: a Netherite Axe still displays a maximum of 2031 durability. With Tier V Durability Guard, each durability point has a 28% chance not to be consumed. Without Unbreaking, that is roughly 2821 durability-consuming uses on average, although the exact result varies because each prevention is random.

When Unbreaking is present, Minecraft checks Unbreaking first. Durability Guard then checks any durability loss that remains. Mending continues to repair the tool normally.

Pickaxe, axe, and shovel perks

Break Efficiency
Provides +8%, +14%, +20%, +28%, or +38% block-breaking speed depending on the perk tier. It works with the tool's normal material speed, Efficiency, Haste, and Minecraft's block suitability rules.

Vein Miner - Pickaxe
Sneak while mining to break connected matching blocks that the pickaxe is effective against, including stone, deepslate, ores, and correctly tagged modded blocks.

Timber - Axe
Sneak while chopping to break connected matching blocks that the axe is effective against, including logs and correctly tagged modded blocks.

Excavation - Shovel
Sneak while digging to break connected matching blocks that the shovel is effective against, including dirt, sand, gravel, clay, snow, and correctly tagged modded blocks.

These gathering perks activate only while the player is sneaking. Normal mining always breaks only the selected block. Their extra-block caps are:

Tier Extra blocks
I 2
II 4
III 6
IV 9
V 12

Connected diagonal blocks are supported. Every extra block uses Minecraft's normal block-breaking flow, consumes durability normally, and respects Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, drops, permissions, and tool restrictions.

Hoe perks

Harvest Replant
Breaking a mature crop with the hoe replants that crop at age zero. Sneak while harvesting to also harvest and replant nearby mature crops of the same type. Depending on tier, this affects up to 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 nearby crops.

Bountiful Harvest
Mature wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroot have a 12%, 20%, 30%, 42%, or 58% chance to provide bonus produce. Tiers I-III add one item; Tiers IV-V add two. Normal crop drops and Fortune calculations still occur first.

Safer controls and better tooltips

  • Vein Miner, Timber, and Excavation clearly state that sneaking is required.
  • Normal mining remains safe for precise single-block mining.
  • Durability Guard states that it prevents durability loss and works without Unbreaking.
  • Break Efficiency states that it stacks with the Efficiency enchantment.
  • Farming perks identify mature-crop requirements, bonus produce, and whether sneaking is required.
  • Tooltips show each perk's tier, exact value, activation method, and cap.
  • Break Efficiency appears only on pickaxes, axes, and shovels.
  • Default tools no longer show the old generic Mining Speed rarity stat.
  • Server owners can still intentionally configure the legacy miningSpeedBonus option for custom items.

Excavation-mod compatibility option

solsitemrarity-common.toml now includes this option under [general]:

[general]
disableConnectedToolPerks = false
  • false keeps Vein Miner, Timber, and Excavation enabled. This is the default.
  • true disables only those three connected block-breaking perks.
  • Break Efficiency and Durability Guard continue working.
  • Hoe perks continue working.
  • Existing tools keep their rolled perks, but disabled connected perks are marked Disabled by config (compatibility mode) in their tooltip.

Set this option to true when using another vein-mining, ore-excavation, tree-felling, or area-digging mod that could conflict with ItemRarity's connected block breaking.

Existing solsitemrarity-common.toml files receive the new option automatically with comments explaining both values. Older test copies of this setting are removed from utility_buffs.json without replacing custom perk weights or tier values. The server value is synchronized to clients.
