Smart StepUp Camera Smoother
Smart StepUp Camera Smoother makes walking onto slabs, stairs, snow layers, and full blocks feel fluid by smoothing the sudden vertical camera movement caused by stepping up.
The effect is entirely visual. It does not change player movement, collision, reach, hitboxes, physics, or network behavior.
Features
- Smooth first-person camera movement when stepping upward.
- Supports rear and front third-person camera smoothing.
- Adjustable smoothness from 0% to 200%.
- Optional Mod Menu configuration screen.
- Works with vanilla stairs, slabs, paths, carpets, and snow layers.
- Designed for compatibility with StepItUp 3.0 and its full-block stepping.
- Handles consecutive steps without creating unlimited camera lag.
- Automatically resets during jumps, falls, swimming, climbing, flight, vehicles, teleports, death, respawning, and world changes.
- Client-side only. Servers do not need to install it.
Configuration
Install Mod Menu to configure the mod in game. Mod Menu is optional and is not required for the smoothing effect to work.
- 0%: Leaves the original upward camera movement unchanged.
- 50%: Applies partial smoothing.
- 100%: Applies full smoothing and is the default.
- 150%: Applies full smoothing with a longer recovery.
- 200%: Applies full smoothing with twice the normal recovery duration.
Third-person smoothing can also be enabled or disabled for both rear and front camera views.
The configuration file is located at:
config/stepup-camera-smoother.json
Requirements
- Minecraft Java Edition 26.2
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer for Minecraft 26.2
- Java 25 or newer
Smart StepUp Camera Smoother does not require Fabric API, Cloth Config, StepItUp, or Mod Menu. Those mods may have their own separate dependencies when installed.
StepItUp Compatibility
StepItUp is optional. When installed, Smart StepUp Camera Smoother detects the resolved full-block step and smooths the resulting camera movement without modifying StepItUp's movement behavior.
Compatibility Notice
Do not install another step camera-smoothing mod at the same time. Multiple mods applying camera corrections to the same movement can cause excessive or incorrect camera motion.
