Slugterra: Mimic — Guide/Information
Legends of Slugterra and GeckoLib are required to use this addon.
The addon adds the Mimic, a Salamander like Creature that perfectly learns and mimics the velocimorphs, This Mod also incudes Hurg's Slinger Gear.
Overview:
- Mimic: a water-loving salamander that mimics the velocimorph of any slug, learns new velocimorphs as it mimics, mimicked velocimorphs scale with mimics combat lvl.
- Northern Mimic: an icy variant you craft from a Mimic capsule; it never spawns in the wild.
- Hurg's Slinger Gear: the Chimera blaster, the CH-M and its five crafting parts and the CH-M Recall Remote, all under their own creative tab.
How the Mimic works:
A loaded Mimic fires the velocimorph of whatever slug was shot most recently near you, and that morphs level is based on the Mimic's own combat level.
When you fire a Mimic from a blaster, it picks its morph in this order:
- A recent shot: the newest slug fired within 25 blocks of you in the last 30 seconds, by anyone. A Mimic never mimics its own shot, but it can mimic another Mimics shot.
- Morph you can chose: Once the mimic mimics a slug that slug can then be picked in its right-click menu.
- Random: right click the Mimic to set it to it's default random state to randomly mimic any slugs velocimorph.
After the shot lands the Mimic turns back into a Mimic, with its level, EXP, health, name and owner intact. Mimics can only mimic slugs from the main slugterra mod and the slugterra dark addon (more support to be added as more slugs come out).
Learning and EXP:
A Mimic learns a morph the first time it mimics that slug, and every bonus is a percentage of the EXP it still needs for its next level.
|
Event |
Bonus |
|---|---|
|
Mimicking a recent shot of your own slug |
about 2% of EXP needed for next level |
|
Mimicking a recent shot of someone else's slug |
about 4% |
|
First time mimicking that slug (it is learned) |
about 15%, once per slug |
- Cooldown: the 2% and 4% Mimicking bonuses can be earned once every 10 seconds.
- Stacking: the 15% learn bonus is added on top of the copy bonus, and normal impact EXP from the morph still applies.
- Learned message: the owner of the Mimic will see "Learned: (slug-type)" above the hotbar, with that slug's journal colour.
- What does not count: random morphs and Right click menu picks give nothing (the bonus EXP and learning only happen when the Mimic mimics a slug you or someone fired just before it not from it's own mimicking ability). A Mimic also learns nothing from another Mimic's random shot, so two Random Mimics cannot teach each other every morph.
Right-click menu:
Right-clicking your own tamed Mimic with an empty hand opens a menu of everything it has learned, or sends it back to Random.
- Nothing learned: the click just keeps it on Random.
- Something learned: a bandolier-style menu opens, one square per learned slug with its icon and coloured name, sorted A to Z in columns of 5. Left-click a slug to set it as the velocimorph your mimic is mimicking.
- Big rosters: the grid shrinks to fit more slugs, then splits into pages when names would get hard to read. Use the page buttons or the mouse wheel.
- Back to Random: right-click the Mimic again to set it back to it's default state of random velocimorphs.
- Holding still: the Mimic stays put while the menu is open then proceeds to stay for 5 seconds after you choose so you can capsule it easily, the mimic also stays for 5 seconds after you reset it to Random.
- Messages: the action bar says "Mimicking: (slug)" after you've picked a slug or "Mimicking: Random" if its back to default.
Mimic Combat Counters:
Two morphs behave differently when a Mimic fires them, and you or your opponent can use that.
- Flopper: Using a Flopper before an opponent's Mimic stops it from morphing, the Mimic itself shoots out and flies like a Flopper staying a Mimic as it has no velocimorph to mimic. If another Mimic is shot out after the first Mimic that Mimic will also shoot out the same way.
- Bubbaleone: if a Mimic fired as a Bubbaleone hits another Bubbaleone (a Bubbaleone slug or a Bubbaleone shot), it is kicked out of its morph and trapped in a Bubbaleone bubble until the bubble releases it. If two Mimic Bubbaleones collide, the one fired second is trapped.
- Your own Bubbaleone: a tamed Bubbaleone you own does not trap your Mimic.
- Landing protection: a Mimic is protected from the damage and effects of the velocimorph it just used for 30 seconds after it lands from the shot.
Spawning and behavior:
Wild Mimics are rare and live in the water or on the shore of two caverns.
- Where to find them: Undertow Cavern and Imperial Waters Cavern, in the water or on land close to the water.
- How rare: Mimics are as rare as the Enigmo slug.
- Food: Mimics prefer protein.
- Swimming: Mimics swim in and out of water freely.
- Sleep: wild Mimics sleep at night; tamed ones only sleep at night when they are out at base via the Slug Rack system.
- Sneezing: all Mimics sneeze at random times, which can be useful if you're trying to find one, though once one gets into the water it's easy to lose.
- Tamed Mimic behavior: all the main mod's usual slug behaviors apply.
Northern Mimic:
The Northern Mimic is craftable only for survival: surround a Mimic capsule with eight Packed Ice and the result is a Northern Mimic capsule.

Getting your first one earns the "Becoming Adapted" achievement. You can also summon or take one from the creative tab which will also grant the achievement.
