Description
Skycreeps
Skycreeps is a NeoForge mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 inspired by the Seacreeper / Seacreep mod, adding a new creeper relative adapted for life in the upper reaches of the Overworld.
Rather than wandering around on the ground, Skycreeps circle high-altitude areas, perch on cliffs and treetops, hunt animals, and generally try to stay out of reach.
They are not mindlessly aggressive. A wild Skycreep prefers to flee when approached, but persistent players may provoke a beak attack, retreat, and eventually an explosive dive.
Features
Skycreeps
Skycreeps can:
- Patrol the skies at high altitude
- Perch on cliffs and trees
- Hunt rabbits, pigs, sheep, and goats
- Carry prey into the air
- Become much more vulnerable while carrying an animal
- Flee from cats
- Become charged by lightning
- Peck players as a warning before escalating
- Use an explosive dive as a last resort
- Drop Skycreep Feathers, Gunpowder, and Beaks
They naturally spawn in the Overworld only.
Insomnia Encounters
Going too long without sleep eventually makes the skies much less friendly.
After 30 in-game days without sleeping, enraged Skycreeps can begin spawning near the player during the same nighttime conditions used for phantom encounters.
Unlike ordinary wild Skycreeps, these variants:
- Can attack at any elevation
- Immediately target the sleepless player
- Dive much more aggressively
- Explode on impact
Sleeping resets the threat.
Beak Culverin
Skycreep Beaks can be used to craft the Beak Culverin, a heavy crank-operated fantasy ranged weapon.
Its behavior depends on the ammunition loaded into it.
Normal Arrows
Normal arrows are fired as slow, heavy shots:
- High velocity
- High individual damage
- Low rate of fire
- One shot every few seconds
Skyshot Arrows
Skyshot Arrows are crafted using Skycreep Feathers and turn the Culverin into a rapid-fire weapon:
- Very high fire rate
- Lower damage per projectile
- Minimal projectile drop
- Designed for sustained fire against airborne targets
The result is somewhere between a medieval hand cannon and a crank-operated fantasy machine gun.
Sky TNT
Skycreeps also adds three specialized TNT blocks.
Featherburst TNT
A fragmentation explosive that releases a radial burst of fast-moving Skyshot projectiles after detonation.
Useful for:
- Area denial
- Anti-air attacks
- Dense groups of mobs
- General poor decision-making
Storm TNT
An electrical explosive that:
- Calls down lightning
- Disrupts nearby flying entities
- Interferes with shields
- Applies combat debuffs
- Causes a destructive blast
Cloud TNT
A mostly non-destructive airburst that:
- Launches nearby entities upward
- Pushes them outward
- Resets fall distance
- Grants temporary Slow Falling
It can be used offensively, defensively, or as improvised mobility.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.x
- GeckoLib 4
GeckoLib is a required dependency.
Compatibility
Skycreeps is designed to work in normal survival worlds, but the mod is especially suited to:
- Elytra-heavy gameplay
- PvPvE modpacks
- Aerial exploration
- Create: Aeronautics-style modpacks
- Worlds where the upper sky could use more danger
Known Issues
- In third-person, the Beak Culverin may not visually align perfectly with the direction of fired arrows after completing its loading animation.
- This is currently a visual issue only; projectile direction and weapon behavior are unaffected.
