Description
Skills X — RPG Attributes

Turn everyday survival into meaningful character progression. Skills X adds a dedicated leveling system, eight upgradeable attributes, and a parchment character sheet inspired by Minecraft.
Become a tougher explorer, a stronger fighter, a faster miner, or a lucky treasure hunter. 250 character levels and 355 attribute points give you room to shape your own playstyle.
Character XP that belongs to your character
Character XP is independent of vanilla Minecraft XP. You do not spend enchanting levels to upgrade your attributes. Start at level 1 with 0 XP, earn experience through productive play, and choose where each attribute point goes.
Save points and spend them whenever you want, one point at a time. Every upgrade shows a preview of its benefits before you commit.
Death does not erase your character progression. Your character level, XP, allocated attributes, discoveries, and completed milestones stay with you.
Eight attributes. Plenty of choices.

These are the default settings. Chance and loot bonuses are modifiers to their respective mechanics; a fishing treasure bonus does not mean every cast becomes treasure. Resistance does not protect against void damage or administrative kills.
Attribute caps differ because each bonus affects gameplay differently. You cannot maximize everything with the points earned through normal progression: your choices matter.
Earn XP by playing Minecraft
Progress through mining natural blocks, defeating mobs yourself, crafting, exploring biomes, fishing, harvesting mature crops, breeding animals, and completing visible advancements.
Rewards reflect the activity. Valuable ores and difficult advancements are more rewarding than common materials. First-time discoveries, crafts, and kills can award extra XP, and eligible rare drops have their own rewards.
Manual metal smelting also contributes: supply the material yourself and collect the output yourself. Ordinary item pickups do not grant free character XP, and automated furnace input or output does not earn these manual rewards.
Keep your activities varied. Repeatable rewards have limits, common blocks become less valuable as you progress, and placed or recycled blocks are excluded where applicable. These safeguards discourage simple reward loops while keeping ordinary survival activities useful.
XP values, the progression curve, and reward settings are configurable, making it easier to balance a world or modpack. Visible advancements from other mods can award XP using their task, goal, or challenge classification. Unusual modded machines and mechanics may need specific integration.
Four milestones. One journey to level 250.
| Current level cap | Required milestone | Next levels unlocked |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | Enter the Nether | 51–100 |
| 100 | Personally defeat the Ender Dragon | 101–150 |
| 150 | Personally defeat the Wither | 151–200 |
| 200 | Personally defeat the Warden | 201–250 |

The milestones follow an ordered progression. Completing a later challenge early does not bypass the previous requirements. XP earned while a progression gate is blocking you is not banked for later.
The character sheet displays a green progression line, milestone icons, and lock indicators, so your next goal stays visible.
Most level-ups award one attribute point. Ten-level milestones award more, and levels 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 grant larger point rewards.
A character sheet made for Minecraft
Press K to open or close your attributes menu. You can also enter through the aged parchment tab with its red ribbon, peeking out from behind your inventory.
Inside the menu, find your character, level, XP progress, attribute caps, available points, and exact next-point bonuses. The interface combines warm parchment, wooden borders, Minecraft item icons, and clear text.
The XP Guide offers a short explanation of productive activities, first discoveries, player involvement, and repetition limits. It keeps the essentials readable without turning the screen into an item-by-item XP catalogue.
Use the Hearts toggle to choose between normal Minecraft heart rows and one compact row with colored health layers: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Gold outlines distinguish temporary absorption. This is a saved client preference, disabled by default, and changes only the display.
A compact upper-left HUD tracks your name, level, and experience bar. Other players display a Lv. tag beside their name. You can hide the HUD or hide other players’ level tags locally.
Use K, Escape, Close, or your inventory key to leave the attributes screen. The menu cannot be opened while your character is dead.
Rebuild with a Reset Scroll
Want to change direction? Craft a Reset Scroll to refund all allocated attribute points. Your level, XP, discoveries, and milestones remain intact. A confirmation screen helps you review the reset before consuming the scroll.
The recipe is available from the beginning, but the ingredients make rebuilding a meaningful decision:
A personal Warden kill always drops a Warden Head. This custom 3D trophy can be worn, placed in the world, or used in the Reset Scroll recipe. Both new items are available in the Creative inventory and through /give.
Installation and compatibility
Minecraft Java 1.20.1 · Fabric or Forge · Java 17
- Fabric: requires Fabric API and a compatible Fabric Loader.
- Forge: use the Forge build; Fabric API is not required.
- For multiplayer, install the matching mod on the server and participating clients.
- Use one loader build, matching your Minecraft installation.
Tested alongside Enchanting Level X, including Wisdom’s enchanting discounts and Dexterity’s ranged interactions. Each mod also works independently.
Commands for testing and administration
Commands require cheats or operator permission.
/skillx add @s 500 points— add 500 character XP./skillx remove @s 100 points— remove 100 character XP./skillx add @s 10 levels— add 10 complete character levels./skillx remove @s 5 levels— remove 5 complete character levels.
Here, points means character XP, not unspent attribute points. Administrative level changes do not complete your adventure milestones.
Creative item examples: /give @s skillx:warden_head and /give @s skillx:reset_scroll. The internal item namespace remains skilllevelingx for save compatibility.
Current status: beta. Feedback on progression speed, rewards, and compatibility helps refine the experience.
