Shore Erosion
Let water reshape the blocks along your rivers, lakes, and coastlines. Shore Erosion gradually transforms blocks touching a configured liquid, with rules you can adjust for your world or modpack.
Built for Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge 14.23.5.2847 or later, and Java 8. No additional mods are required.
What it does
- Water can turn sand into clay, grass blocks into gravel, and stone into cobblestone. Cobblestone can become gravel or mossy cobblestone.
- Set the source block, replacement, liquid, base delay, random extra delay, and weight for each rule.
- Require or exclude blocks and liquid categories at neighboring positions.
- Use vanilla liquids or fluids registered by other Forge mods, and blocks from installed mods.
- Adjust scanning, queue sizes, and block changes per tick for your server. Scanning pauses when the timer queue is full and resumes from unfinished work when space becomes available.
- Edit rules in-game using block pickers and English or Russian controls.
Default behavior
All seven default rules require direct contact with water. Sand can become clay after 180–240 seconds. When there is no liquid directly above it, sand also has an equally weighted sand-to-sand outcome after 60 seconds. A separate clay rule applies when a minecraft:water block is directly above the sand.
Grass blocks become gravel after 120–180 seconds. Stone becomes cobblestone after 300–420 seconds. Cobblestone has equally weighted gravel and mossy-cobblestone outcomes after 240–300 seconds. Delays use game ticks and may take longer under server load or while work is queued.
The mod changes actual blocks, including player-placed blocks that match a rule. Back up existing worlds before enabling erosion or experimenting with new rules.
Installation
- Install Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2 and use Java 8.
- Add the Shore Erosion JAR to the instance's
modsfolder, or import it through your launcher. - Start the game and open Mods > Shore Erosion > Config.
For singleplayer, install the mod in your game instance. For multiplayer, install it on the server. Other players can join without installing Shore Erosion; installing it on a client adds the configuration interface and debug display. An installed client copy must have exactly the same version as the server.
Configuration
The first launch creates config/shoreerosion.json. It stores the gameplay rules, performance limits, and debug settings. In multiplayer, only server operators can apply changes; in singleplayer, the world owner can do so.
Changes applied through the in-game editor take effect immediately and restart pending erosion work. Restart the world or server after editing the JSON manually. Configurations from older schema versions are rejected: back up the old file, then remove it to generate fresh defaults and re-enter any custom rules.
Debug visualization is disabled by default. A server administrator can enable it to show queued replacements and chunk scanning progress. Each client can also choose whether to display this information locally.
