Saplings can't just grow everywhere, they need to be placed in a cool biome to grow into big, healthy trees. That being said, I wouldn't recommend planting your sapling in a desert!
You'd think if 1.13 was supposed to promote coral reef preservation, Mojang would've made coral blocks renewable! Not to worry, this mod fixes that! Now, you can bonemeal a small coral to get a large one, quickly filling up lakes and oceans

To balance out this change, this mod makes it so even though you can't silk touch reinforced deepslate and budding amethyst, you can move them by pistons, allowing for nice accents in your builds if you're willing to put in the work
