⚓ Patch Notes | Seroka Ship 0.2.0
Welcome to Seroka Ship 0.2.0! This massive update aligns the standalone ship module with all the advanced naval mechanics from the full Seroka mod. We have completely overhauled ship interactions, physics, onboard systems, and the overall sailing experience.
Reminder: Seroka Ship is a standalone mod focusing exclusively on the shipbuilding and sailing mechanics. It uses the seroka_ship namespace and does not include the full world generation, factions, or spells from the main Seroka mod.
Here is everything new in this major update:
🪢 Advanced Mooring & Anchoring System
Securing your ship is no longer just dropping a block; it's a fully simulated mechanic.
-
Mooring Rings: Can be placed on hulls, decks, or docks as attachment points.
-
Mooring Lines (Ropes & Chains): Use flexible ropes to tie your ship to a dock, or heavy rolled chains for towing. Beware: ropes will snap if the tension gets too high!
-
Visual Enhancements: Mooring lines and anchor chains are now fully rendered dynamically between connection points, visible to all players.
-
Complete Anchor Simulation: Drop and weigh anchors directly from the cathead block, complete with a visible rendered chain reaching the sea floor.
💥 Physics, Inertia, and Lethality
Your ship is no longer just a vehicle; it's a massive, heavy object subject to gravity and momentum.
-
Crushing & Falling Damage: A ship is heavy! Players caught underneath a falling hull, or squashed between a moving ship and a dock, will now take massive, often lethal, kinetic damage based on the ship's mass and speed. Armor will not save you from being crushed.
-
Hull Fissures: Damage taken by the hull is now visually represented. Damaged hull blocks will show mining-like cracks, indicating that repairs are needed.
-
Ocean Currents: A dynamic surface current system has been added. It gently pushes ships off course (up to ~0.25 blocks/sec) based on weather and time, demanding constant attention at the helm. (Currents affect ships only, not swimmers).
⚙️ Onboard Systems & Redstone
Bring your ships to life with fully functional mechanisms.
-
Onboard Redstone: You can now build redstone circuits directly on your ship! Levers, buttons, repeaters, doors, trapdoors, note blocks, and bells all function correctly while the ship is moving. The system includes safeguards to prevent infinite loops from crashing the server.
-
Ship Bell Synchronization: Ringing a bell on a moving ship is now perfectly synchronized across the network for all players.
-
Functional Brewing Stands: Following the logic of the Ship Furnace, onboard Brewing Stands now work perfectly. Distillation progresses with the ship's ticks, and bottles won't fall out during assembly.
🛏️ Quality of Life & Server Optimization
Sailing with a crew is now smoother than ever.
-
Moving Beds: You can now sleep in a bed on a moving ship without glitching or being "stuck" to the world coordinates!
-
No Unwanted Stowaways: Natural mob spawning is now disabled inside and on assembled hulls (eggs, breeding, and raids still function normally).
-
Server Diagnostics: Added a
/diagnosticnavirescommand allowing server admins to monitor tick usage specifically related to ship physics, helping identify lag caused by massive builds.
🌍 Compatibility & Environment
While Seroka Ship is standalone, it remembers its roots.
-
Karman Sea Compatibility: The mod includes a minimal API to detect and interact with the Karman Sea (clouds, geysers, blue holes, ocean trenches) if the main Seroka mod (or a compatible worldgen) is installed alongside it. It handles transitions and passenger re-boarding seamlessly.
🛠️ The Core Mechanics (Refined)
The foundation of Seroka Ship remains intact and fully synchronized with the main mod:
-
Assembly: Build your ship block by block and bring it to life using Carpenter's Hammers (Wood to Netherite).
-
Sailing: Manage the rudder, sails, and rigging for authentic navigation.
-
Cannons: Fully operational naval artillery with aiming, gunpowder management, firing, and cannonball physics.
-
Cargo & Breaches: Manage your ship's hold and repair breaches caused by combat or reefs.
📸 New Helm Camera System
Sailing massive ships blindly is a thing of the past (mostly). A new dynamic camera system has been integrated for captains:
-
Activation (C Key): Press C while steering at the helm to toggle a zoomed-out 3rd-person view, offering a clear angle for tight maneuvers. Press C again to return to your previous view.
-
Dynamic Zoom (Scroll Wheel): While the helm camera is active, use your Mouse Wheel to seamlessly adjust the camera distance (from roughly 3 to 64 blocks away).
-
Auto-Reset: Pressing Shift or simply stepping away from the rudder will automatically reset your camera back to the normal view.
-
⚠️ Note for Server Admins: This update bumps the network protocol to Version 4. Ensure both the server and all clients are using the exact same .jar file to connect without issues.
Hoist the sails and prepare for a much more dangerous, immersive, and realistic maritime experienc
