Seasons Alive
A world that changes with the seasons.
Watch your Minecraft world come to life throughout the year. Trees blossom, summer storms leave spreading puddles, autumn leaves gather beneath bare branches, and winter slowly buries the landscape in snow.
Four seasons. Twelve seasonal stages. Changing weather, wildlife, scenery and adventures.
Each season lasts six Minecraft days, divided into early, mid and late stages.
Spring: The World Wakes Up
Winter gives way to flowers, fresh greenery and returning wildlife.
- Melting snow: the winter snowpack gradually melts, leaving shallow puddles that spread and dry.
- Growing flowers: young flowers emerge as the snow disappears, growing through several stages into full-sized flowers.
- Returning grass: short grass grows back through small growth stages.
- Regrowing trees: leaves return gradually, including partial leaf blocks that fill out over time.
- Seasonal blossoms: oak and birch trees develop buds and blossoms, with petals drifting from exposed sides.
- Changing colours: grass becomes warmer and more vibrant as spring progresses.
- New life: nearby animals breed naturally, while squirrels and hedgehogs emerge from their winter shelters.
- Flower visitors: growing flowers can attract butterflies and bumblebees.
Summer - Sunshine and Thunderstorms
Full tree canopies, long days and warm landscapes define summer.
- Leafy trees: trees regain their full canopies.
- Longer days: enjoy more daylight and brighter nights.
- Greener ground: grass spreads and grows down the sides of grass blocks.
- Clear midsummer skies: ordinary clouds become less common and disappear during midsummer.
- Summer thunderstorms: heavier rain creates shallow puddles that spread across the ground.
- Faster evaporation: puddles dry more quickly in the summer heat.
- Hot surfaces: bare stone and sand can become painfully hot during midsummer. Wear boots or bring suitable protection!
- Desert greenery: rain-soaked desert sand can become sandy grass.
Autumn: Falling Leaves and Warm Colours
Watch the landscape turn brown as trees prepare for winter.
- Changing foliage: leaves darken and turn brown before gradually falling.
- Different tree timings: tree species begin losing their leaves at different points in autumn.
- Leaf heaps: falling leaves build small, medium and large heaps beneath trees.
- Wind-driven spreading: heaps spread into neighbouring spaces, including lower ground, eventually forming scattered leaf litter.
- Natural shapes: heaps have irregular outlines and individual leaves arranged at different angles.
- Exposed branches: small branches and tiny twigs appear as trees lose their foliage.
- Branch variations: discover different branch shapes, with a chance of obtaining saplings.
- Falling acorns: acorns gather beneath trees, and squirrels collect them for their stores.
- Autumn atmosphere: a warm vignette, shorter days and lower sunlight change the feel of the world.
- Low fog: mist can drift around fallen leaf heaps.
Winter: A World Under Snow
The landscape grows quiet, dark and increasingly snow-covered.
- Bare trees: trees lose their remaining leaves as winter arrives.
- Accumulating snow: snow clouds build a persistent snowpack using Minecraft’s snow layers.
- Deep snow: snow can reach around three blocks deep in the regular world.
- Buried scenery: snow covers plants and fallen leaves, reaches beneath tree canopies and settles around smaller branches.
- Frozen branches: branches can develop snowy edges and icicles.
- Short winter days: longer nights and an especially brief daylight period during midwinter.
- Winter skies: dark midwinter nights reveal extra stars, constellations and moving northern lights.
- Cold protection: wear at least two pieces of armour to protect yourself from winter freezing.
- The first thaw: late winter brings gentle melting before spring’s larger thaw.
Weather, Clouds and Puddles
Weather changes the ground beneath your feet.
- Moving local rain clouds, snow clouds and thunderclouds.
- Weather effects that follow the seasons.
- Shallow puddles after rainfall and snowmelt.
- Water that spreads into neighbouring spaces and flows towards lower ground.
- Connected puddles that form larger pools.
- Gradual evaporation, with faster drying in summer.
- Short grass that becomes darker and flattened when wet, then recovers after drying.
Wildlife with Seasonal Behaviour
New creatures interact with flowers, trees, the weather and each other.
- Bumblebees visit flowers, land to rest and occasionally take higher exploratory flights.
- Butterflies emerge from cocoons, visit flowers and gently flutter their wings while landed.
- Frogs catch butterflies and bumblebees with their tongues.
- Deer graze, develop antlers and flee when frightened.
- Squirrels explore trees, collect acorns and prepare underground stores.
- Hedgehogs use their own low shelters for winter rest.
- Migrating birds fly, perch and use tree nests.
- Penguins inhabit cold surroundings, waddle around and sometimes dive into nearby water.
New animals have their own models, sounds and spawn eggs.
Chop Down Trees
Give tree chopping a more physical feel.
- Chop natural trees with individual axe strikes.
- Each strike creates a growing notch, with wood particles and chopping sounds.
- Better axes require fewer hits.
- Trees fall towards the side you chop, with a cracking sound and an animated collapse.
- Cut higher up the trunk to leave a stump behind.
- Falling trees retain their seasonal foliage and drop their resources afterwards.
Player-placed logs retain normal mining behaviour.
Huge Pumpkins and Portable Homes
Grow a pumpkin large enough to live inside.
- Plant Huge Pumpkin Seeds in spring.
- Grow a 3×3×3 pumpkin through summer.
- Decorate the interior of a hollow pumpkin.
- Place blocks, storage and even animals inside.
- Pick up your pumpkin house and place it somewhere else while preserving its contents.
- Choose from orange, lighter orange and cream-coloured variants.
- Packed pumpkin homes show a preview of their contents in the inventory.
Four Seasonal Bosses
Each season has its own opponent and rewards.
Briarheart - Spring
A charging woodland boss that rewards you with the Briar Charm, providing regeneration on grass.
Sunscarab - Summer
A jumping, flying boss with powerful landing attacks. Its Sunstone provides heat and lava protection.
Pumpking - Autumn
A crowned pumpkin boss with a special weakness: shears.
Remove its interior across thirty successful shears to defeat it.
Frostmaw - Winter
A freezing opponent that drops winter protection and a Frostmaw Crystal.
The Frost Dimension
Follow a crystal towards a frozen destination.
- Hold a Frostmaw Crystal to find the direction of a rare ice ruin.
- Use four crystals to activate its gateway.
- Enter the rotating white light sphere above the portal.
- Experience freezing particles and nausea before travelling to the other side.
Inside, discover:
- A small island of packed ice and snow.
- A pale, otherworldly sky.
- Continuous snowfall.
- Snow that accumulates beyond the regular world’s seasonal limit, up to the dimension’s build height.
- Frost Ore and Levaticus Ore, with matching ingots.
Levaticus - Turn Gravity Upside Down
An unusual metal with unusual physics.
- Uncover Levaticus Ore from above and watch it shoot upwards at ten blocks per second.
- Stand on it to travel upwards with it!
- Craft Levaticus armour from its ingots.
- Wearing one piece reverses your gravity, body orientation and camera.
- Fall upwards, stand beneath ceilings and jump down away from them.
- Remove the armour to restore normal gravity.
Pumpkin Spice Latte
A little Autumn Warmth.
- Brew a pumpkin with water bottles to make a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
- Drinking it restores 6 hunger points - three hunger icons.
- The temporary Autumn Warmth effect grants an extra heart.
- Place your latte down as a decoration.
Big Torches
Bring light and warmth into the winter landscape.
- Craft a Big Torch using one stick, three coal or charcoal, and one iron ingot.
- Carry it for light and warmth.
- Place it on the ground or against a wall.
- Nearby snow melts quickly.
- New snow cannot accumulate within its warmth radius.
Season Clocks and Filming Tools
Explore the seasons at your own pace, or capture them in a timelapse.
- An inventory season dial shows your current season and its early, mid or late stage.
- Use clocks to skip daylight, seasons or subseasons.
- Accelerate the environmental simulation up to 100×.
- Seasonal transition animations showcase the changing landscape.
