Scorched Smelters
Smelters were never meant to run forever. In this mod, furnaces, smokers and blast furnaces build up temperature while they smelt — the longer they burn without a break, the redder and brighter they glow... until they blow.
How it works
- Temperature (0–100%) — Every smelter has an internal temperature that rises while it is actively smelting and falls when it stops. Heat is cumulative: an interrupted session cools down but never resets, so a smelter that runs again picks up where it left off. The block's appearance smoothly turns red hot as the temperature climbs.
- Overheating (100–120%) — Keep feeding it and the temperature pushes past 100%. From 105% the chance of a catastrophic explosion grows every moment (1% → 99%), and at 120% the smelter is guaranteed to blow, dropping its contents and detonating like TNT.
- Dangerous to touch — A hot smelter burns anything standing on or inside it, like a magma block — and at 100% it hurts like lava.
- Cool it down — An idle smelter cools on its own. Placing water, ice or snow next to it cools it dramatically faster, even while it is still burning — but a hot smelter will slowly melt adjacent ice, so watch your coolant supply!
Per-smelter behavior (defaults)
| Smelter | Starts glowing | Reaches 100% | Explosion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace | after 2 items | after 200 items | 3 TNT |
| Smoker | after 2 items | after 100 items | 1 TNT |
| Blast Furnace | after 1 item | after 200 items | 5 TNT |
Extras
- Fully configurable — every number above lives in
config/scorched-smelters.json, created automatically on first run. - Jade support — look at a smelter with Jade installed to see its exact temperature.
- Vanilla-friendly — recipes, fuel, UIs and hoppers all work exactly as before; explosions follow normal TNT rules.
Requirements
- Fabric Loader + Fabric API
- Works on dedicated servers and in singleplayer; the mod is needed on both sides for the smooth glow effect (Jade integration is optional).
