What's new
api/reputation — what named groups think of a player
The third seam, after the economy and chat decoration, and it exists for the economy's reason:
two mods wanted to grant the same fact. Chronicler wants a reputation reward and an availability
condition on quests; LegendQuest's StoryTeller wants /st reward <player> rep <standing> <n> beside
xp, karma and money. Neither should own a concept the other writes to.
A standing is one named group's opinion of one player — survivors, raiders, the_hospital.
It is none of the three things it gets confused with:
- not membership — you can be loathed by a faction you belong to;
- not a moral axis — one number for your soul cannot say the hospital trusts you and the raiders want you dead, and those are the interesting stories;
- not permission — a standing is an opinion, not a grant.
Standings are created the first time something writes one. A quest naming the_hospital makes
it exist; there is no registry to maintain. Names are normalised centrally, so The_Hospital cannot
quietly become a second group nobody notices.
Exactly one store holds it, highest priority winning outright — two stores disagreeing about whether the survivors trust you is worse than either alone. Standards registers below zero, so a dedicated reputation mod displaces it without either side knowing the other exists.
ReputationEvent fires after a change lands and carries both values, because almost every
useful reaction is about a threshold being crossed rather than about the new number. crossed(n)
is on the event for exactly that.
Named bands give a message a word instead of a number — "the survivors consider you friendly"
— and can be overridden per standing. They are for prose only and deliberately not something to
branch on: a consumer keying off "friendly" breaks the day an owner renames it.
Commands: /rep, /rep <player>, /rep list, /rep top <standing>,
/rep set|add <player> <standing> <n>. Four new permission nodes.
