Sable Jolt Physics
Replaces the physics engine in Sable with Jolt Physics instead of Rapier.
⚠️ Alpha. Stable operation is not guaranteed. Please report any issues on the issue tracker.
Why?
In complex scenes, Rapier caused severe performance drops, and server TPS fell with them. After switching to Jolt, the load dropped noticeably in our scenarios.
Features
- Uses Jolt Physics as the physics backend for Sable.
- Supports Fabric and NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Native Jolt libraries are bundled for Windows, Linux (x64 and ARM64) and macOS (x64 and ARM64).
- On platforms without a bundled native build, the mod falls back to Rapier.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- Java 21+
- Sable
- Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.16.0+ and Fabric API
- NeoForge: NeoForge 21.1+
Performance
Test machine: Intel Core i7-14700KF, 64 GB RAM (16 GB allocated to Minecraft), RTX 5070, GraalVM JDK 25. Tick time was measured with /tick query. Values are min–max MSPT, so lower is better.
1,540 falling objects with collisions
| Phase | Rapier | Jolt |
|---|---|---|
| During the fall | 180.0–248.5 | 67.3–210.2 |
| After landing (idle) | 48.0–54.4 | 25.6–35.5 |
400 hovering panels rotating 6° every 12 ticks
| Rapier | Jolt |
|---|---|
| 10.7–18.9 | 6.1–13.4 |
Known limitations
- The project is in Alpha.
- Sable's behavior with Jolt may differ from its behavior with Rapier.
