Roost Traces

Roost Traces is a small NeoForge companion mod that makes Ice and Fire CE surface dragon roosts part of the Create ReAutomated progression loop.

When a compatible dragon roost generates, the mod records its position and later places one Create ReAutomated Node into the roost floor. The node sits flush with the existing terrain, so the roost keeps its original shape and does not gain a bulky trace outcrop or platform. The node is still registered with Create ReAutomated: Traces, which means it can be discovered with the Trace Finder and used by Create ReAutomated extraction systems.

The goal is to make dragon roosts feel like meaningful resource landmarks without turning them into cluttered structures. Fire, ice, and lightning roosts can each have their own node pool, so a modpack developer can decide exactly what kind of reward each roost type should contain. For example, fire roosts can be limited to gold nodes, ice roosts to diamond nodes, and lightning roosts to zinc nodes.

Configuration is data-driven through datapacks. Roost node pools support direct block ids and block tags, making it easy to whitelist specific nodes, exclude unwanted nodes, or add custom nodes.

Roost Traces is designed to be light on the server. New roosts are captured during generation, then processed later on the main server thread with a configurable per-tick budget. Existing worlds can use the optional backfill scanner, which checks loaded chunks for old roosts and queues likely matches.
