Rite of Returning

Rite of Returning is a dark fantasy lifesteal and resurrection mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Every death matters: players lose hearts when they die, and once all their hearts are gone, they are cast out of their body as a wandering spirit.

In spirit form, players become ghost-like. They can fly, phase through blocks, and drift through the world as an invisible soul. To regain a physical body, a spirit must find an undead mob and take control of it, transforming into that creature through the Walkers system.

But becoming undead is only the beginning.

To return to human form, the cursed player must complete the Rite of Returning, a dangerous ritual built around a central Ritual Brazier and four Return Altars. Each altar must be placed at the cardinal directions, three blocks away from the brazier, and each altar must contain a Golden Apple. The undead player must hold a Totem of Undying and activate the brazier at midnight.

Once the ritual begins, undead enemies will rise and attempt to interrupt the process. The player must remain close to the brazier and survive until the rite is complete. If successful, the curse is broken and the player returns to human form.

Ritual Setup

Place the Ritual Brazier in the center.

Place four Return Altars exactly three blocks away from the brazier:

• North

• South

• East

• West

Each Return Altar must contain one Golden Apple.

The undead player must hold a Totem of Undying and right-click the Ritual Brazier at midnight to begin the Rite of Returning.
When you use the totem on your Brazier make sure to hold it in your offhand when you get turned back into a mortal or you will die losing another heart.
