Ring Map

Server-defined progression contours and bilingual generation hints on Xaero's World Map for Steam & Steel ring worlds.

Ring Map

See server-defined progression regions and generation hints on Xaero's World Map. Ring Map adds a switchable overlay for the six-region world layout used by Steam & Steel servers.

Features

  • Coloured, translucent progression contours that follow the server's actual RingAccess geometry and Overworld border.
  • A saved visibility toggle on the world-map screen.
  • Hover information and expanded Shift tooltips in English and Russian, including resource-height rules, structure categories and climate information supplied by the server.
  • Server-provided contours and generation rules without sending the world seed. Tooltips describe generation rules; they do not reveal discovered ore deposits or structure locations.

The six regions use five inner contour boundaries and a square outer world border. The contours are approximations of the server field, rather than six perfect circles. This is a read-only information layer: it does not change world generation, progression rules or balance.

Usage

Install the addon on the server and on clients that want the overlay. Open Xaero's World Map, use the Rings button to toggle the layer, and hold Shift while hovering for more information. The overlay appears in the Overworld after the matching server has supplied a complete data set.

This release is designed for the Steam & Steel RingAccess world-generation API. It is a separate addon, but it does not create progression rings on arbitrary servers. The dedicated server needs the matching Radial module and generation/border configuration. Those server-specific configurations and the world seed are not bundled.

For operators, /ringmap resend sends the current prepared layer again; it does not reload world-generation settings. Apply generation-rule changes through their normal server configuration and startup process.

Compatibility

  • Minecraft 1.21.1, Java 21.
  • NeoForge 21.1.235 or later within the 21.1 branch, below 21.2.
  • Client: Xaero's World Map exactly 1.44.2, installed separately. Other versions are not claimed compatible.
  • Server: steamsteelradial exactly 0.1.0-test9-api, plus the matching Radial, ore-ring, dungeon-ring and Overworld-border configuration. This API is also included in Steam & Steel Companion 0.1.3.
  • Install Ring Map on both sides for the overlay feature. Its optional network protocol allows connection without the layer when the other side does not provide it.

Xaero's Minimap and Xaero Map Regions are not required. Xaero's World Map and the server API are not bundled in this JAR. Companion is an optional API provider for the server, rather than a mandatory client dependency of this addon. This release supports the server geometry limits documented by the source package; unusually large borders can prevent layer preparation.

From Steam & Steel

Ring Map originated in Steam & Steel SMP, our custom Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge server modpack. It is published independently of the Companion package as a map integration for servers using our RingAccess progression layout.

Beta / Feedback

This is a beta release developed for a specific Steam & Steel server pack. Local packaged-code, network-codec and native map-API checks passed. Server startup and native distribution generation have been verified. Actual client visuals, zoom/pan behaviour, hover tooltips, language switching and FPS have not yet been verified in game.

If you encounter a crash, an error or unexpected behaviour, leave a comment with your addon, Minecraft, NeoForge and Xaero's World Map versions, the server API version, and steps to reproduce it. For display issues, include the dimension and zoom level. Remove private details from shared log excerpts. We will investigate reported bugs and work on fixes.
