Retro FastSuite improves recipe lookup performance in large Minecraft Forge 1.12.2 modpacks.
The mod builds a conservative index of loaded recipes and uses it to skip recipes that cannot match the current crafting grid. Recipe matching itself is still performed by Forge: IRecipe.matches() remains the final authority, and recipes that cannot be classified safely stay on the normal fallback path.
This keeps recipe order and crafting behaviour intact while making broad lookups and failed matches much less expensive.
Compatibility
- FastWorkbench
- Universal Tweaks Crafting Cache
- RetroPolymorph (WIP)
Performance
The bundled benchmark was run against 24,325 loaded recipes. Times below are the average per lookup in microseconds; lower is better. Results depend on the modpack, JVM, hardware, and lookup pattern.
| Workload | Retro FastSuite | Vanilla scan | Speedup |
|---|---|---|---|
| All matches: acacia planks | 520.19 µs | 7,743.59 µs | 14.89× |
| All matches: sticks | 567.16 µs | 8,343.35 µs | 14.71× |
| All matches: crafting table | 431.73 µs | 7,165.15 µs | 16.60× |
| All matches: black shulker box | 467.59 µs | 7,798.17 µs | 16.68× |
| Failed lookup | 711.77 µs | 11,476.92 µs | 16.12× |
| First failed lookup | 533.79 µs | 12,280.99 µs | 23.01× |
The implementation is tested against ordered vanilla-style recipe scans, including positive cases, negative cases, alternative matching stacks, and randomized grids.
