Description

Repair Hammer
Repair Hammer adds a single tool that repairs damaged equipment by spending experience points. Hold it in one hand and the item you want to fix in the other (or aim it at another player), and the gear is restored gradually, with no anvil, no material cost and no item renaming.
A Forge mod. Install it on both the server and the clients.

How it works
The hammer works from either hand. Right-click and hold: durability is restored tick by tick and experience is drained in proportion to what was repaired.
- Item in the other hand: hold the hammer in one hand and the damaged item in the other.
- Your own armor: sneak (Shift) + right-click to repair the armor you are wearing.
- Another player's armor: aim at a nearby player and their worn armor is restored progressively.
- Auto-target: if you aim at nobody and hold nothing repairable, the hammer repairs the nearest player with damaged armor within range.
- Works on armor, tools, weapons (swords, bows, crossbows, tridents) and elytra.
- Repair is continuous, not instant: release at any point and you only pay for what was restored.
- It stops automatically when the item is fully repaired, when you run out of experience, or when the target is no longer valid.
- Anvil sounds and particles give feedback while repairing, and a progress bar shows how far along it is.
Experience cost
Experience is charged progressively to the player holding the hammer, never to the target. In creative mode repairing is free.
- Cost per durability point is configurable (set it to 0 for free repairs).
- Optional XP cap per repair: when reached, the repair pauses and you can hold again to continue, so a huge item never drains you by mistake.
The hammer itself
- Very high durability (configurable), fire resistant, epic rarity.
- It wears down as you repair, at a configurable rate. Wear is exact: fractions of a point carry over between uses.
- Choose when it wears: progressively while repairing, or all at once when the repair ends. The total wear is the same in both modes.
- Repaired at the anvil with netherite ingots only.
- Can be enchanted with Unbreaking only. Mending is not allowed, and hammers cannot be combined with each other.
- The hand animation (a hammering motion) is visible while you repair.
Repairing other players
Aim at a nearby player while holding the hammer and their armor is restored progressively. The maximum distance and the aiming tolerance are set in the server configuration. The repaired player can optionally be notified in their action bar when someone starts repairing their armor and when it is done.

Configuration
Gameplay options live in the world's serverconfig folder (repairhammer-server.toml), so each server or world can have its own settings. Changes saved to the file apply on their own, or instantly with /repairhammer reload. To make new worlds start with your values, copy the file to the server's defaultconfigs folder. No code changes or datapacks are needed for the hammer's settings.
Server options
- Hammer: durability, wear rate, and wear mode (progressive or at the end of the repair)
- Repair: speed (points per tick), range, aiming tolerance and auto-target range
- Toggles: repair the item in your other hand, your own armor, other players; enable or disable each category (armor, tools, weapons, elytra)
- Experience: XP cost per durability point and optional XP limit per repair
- Sound: hit, finish and break sounds, each with its own sound ID, volume and pitch; hit frequency and pitch variation
- Particles: particle type, amount and spread for the hits and the finish
- Messages: progress bar, repair warnings, notice to the repaired player, arm swing animation
- Command: permission level required for
/repairhammer reload
Client options (repairhammer-client.toml or Mods > Repair Hammer > Config)
Each player can adjust their own visuals without affecting the server's gameplay rules:
- Hammer hand animation: on/off, speed (ticks per hit) and intensity
- Your own arm swing on/off
- Hide the messages you don't want to see: progress bar, warnings, and the "someone is repairing your armor" notice
Intended use
Repair Hammer fits survival and multiplayer servers that want a faster alternative to the anvil while keeping experience as the cost of repairing. Server owners can tune the speed, the XP price and the hammer's wear to match their progression.
