Remnants | Fellowship 2.0.0
Better With Gold is now Remnants | Fellowship: hire named sellswords with gold and lead them as a warband.
The mod id is still better_with_gold, so 1.x worlds keep their gold gear.
Supported: 1.20.1 (Fabric, Forge), 1.21.1 (Fabric, NeoForge, Forge), 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric, NeoForge). Fabric builds need Fabric API; nothing else is required.
Sellswords and the warband
- Sellswords for hire turn up near village bells. Each has a name, a class, a level, one or two traits and a price in gold ingots shown above their head. Use them while holding gold to hire them.
- Five classes: Bulwark (tank, taunts enemies off everyone else), Skirmisher (hits every enemy around it), Ranger (keeps its distance, volleys), Mender (heals the most hurt ally or leader, revives the downed) and Arcanist (arc bolts, a storm on packed enemies). Classes are JSON files packs can edit or add to.
- Eleven traits (Steadfast, Swift, Brutal, Keen-eyed, Stalwart, Devoted, Lucky, Greedy, Hardy, Fearless, Merciful), levels 1 to 20 with titles, and morale.
- Up to 6 allies per leader by default (configurable up to 24).
Leading
- Command wheel (hold G): Follow, Charge, Focus, Hold, Fall back, Guard banner, Formation and Recall.
- Formations: Line, Wedge, Shield Wall (tanks and melee in front) and Circle.
- Warbanner: plant it and the warband forms up around it and guards it; lift it and they follow you again.
- Aggro: enemies attack whoever holds the most aggro, and keep their target until someone beats it by 10%. Bulwarks taunt; a label above each engaged enemy shows who it is after.
- Roster (U): every ally's stats, traits, ability and Chronicle; send allies to camp, summon or dismiss them; the Remembrance of the fallen.
- Party frames in the top-left corner with health and downed countdowns.
Look and feel
- Twenty hand-shaded skins (four per class) with real outer-layer gear: helms and a bascinet, hoods, plate pauldrons and greaves, a tabard with the gold diamond, a ranger's cloak and quiver, a mender's stole, an arcanist's high collar with embroidery that glows.
- The roster shows the selected ally as a live 3D portrait when it is nearby, with segmented bars, six stat tiles, trait and ability chips that explain themselves on hover, and the Chronicle as a timeline.
- The command wheel is a ring of gold-rimmed slices with an icon for every order; the one you point at lifts out and glows, and the hub shows what it does.
- Party frames carry each ally's class emblem and a health bar whose damage drains away behind it; a downed ally's frame pulses red with the countdown and revive progress.
- Every ability has its own effect, all vanilla particles and sounds so no resource pack is needed: the Bulwark's war-cry shockwave and red chains to the enemies it pulls, the Skirmisher's spinning blade arc, glowing volley trails, the Mender's travelling mote and spiral of light, jagged arcane bolts and chain lightning. Allies going down, getting back up, levelling up and swearing the oath, and the Warbanner being planted, all have their moment too.
Downed, not dead
- At zero health an ally collapses instead of dying, enemies lose interest, and it bleeds out over 30 seconds. Crouch beside it to revive it; Menders revive by themselves.
- A bled-out ally recovers at camp for 5 minutes. Optional permadeath sends the fallen to the Remembrance.
The Chronicle
Each ally's story is written from what it did: where it swore the oath, the kill that blooded it, kill milestones, bosses fought and slain, the times it went down and who pulled it back, the dimensions it crossed into.
Never lost
Following allies travel with you through log-outs and dimension changes, and Recall finds allies left in unloaded areas by loading the chunk where they were last seen.
Gold
- Hiring costs gold ingots. Each piece of Reinforced Golden Armour you wear adds 3% damage and 5 minimum morale to allies near you. The Golden Fish fully heals an ally and adds 30 morale.
- The 17 gold items are kept with their behaviour, now in the Gilded Regalia tab, and their crafting and smithing recipes (missing since 1.2) are back.
Compatibility
- Optional link to RPG Attribute System: allies cannot out-level your RPG level (at least level 5).
- Allies are vanilla owned entities, which Remnants: RPG Mobs, Skills and Powers and Mob Loot Bags treat as yours.
