Description
๐ Realistic Water โ Forge 1.20.1
Forget water that creeps forward one block at a time. Realistic Water turns Minecraft water into a real fluid, simulated by thousands of particles on your graphics card. Pour it and it rushes across the floor, finds its level, splashes, foams and overflows, just like real water.
โ Minecraft 1.20.1 ยท โ Forge 47+ ยท โ Singleplayer ยท โ Multiplayer
โจ Features
- ๐ง A real fluid: water spreads over every block at once instead of block by block, then settles into a flat surface.
- ๐ Splashes and foam: white water, spray and droplets when it falls, pours down a slope or hits a wall.
- ๐ Clear, slightly transparent water with reflections, so you can see the bottom of your pool.
- โฌ๏ธ It rises and overflows: leave a spring running and it fills the pit, then spills over the edges.
- ๐ฅ Explosions throw water around, and players and mobs push it as they walk through.
- ๐ Feels like normal water: you can swim in it and drown in it.
- โ๏ธ Settings screen (
/water) to adjust quality and performance, with a tooltip on every setting.
๐ฎ Singleplayer & Multiplayer
- ๐ง Singleplayer: install it and play, nothing to configure.
- ๐ฅ Multiplayer:
- install the mod on the server and on every player's client;
- every player sees the same water in the same place;
- the water is saved with the world, so it is still there after a restart;
- the water near each player is simulated on that player's own graphics card, so the server does no heavy work.
๐ชฃ How to get realistic water
- Put one water bucket in a crafting grid. You get a Realistic Water Bucket, and no empty bucket is left over.
- Empty it: it pours an infinite spring that keeps flowing. To keep big floods under control, a spring stops pouring once about 300 blocks of water are around you (you can change this in the settings).
- Use an empty bucket to scoop realistic water up at any depth. Aimed at the water over a spring, it takes the spring itself and stops the flow.
Normal water buckets, rivers and oceans stay vanilla.
๐ฅ๏ธ Requirements
| ๐ฎ Game | Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47 or later |
| ๐ข Graphics card | OpenGL 4.5 with the GL_KHR_shader_subgroup extension, in practice an NVIDIA card |
| ๐ป System | Windows or Linux (macOS is not supported) |
- ๐ If your card can't run it, the mod tells you once in chat and realistic water is drawn like normal water. Nothing crashes.
- ๐จ Shader packs (Oculus / Iris): while a shader pack is on, the simulation pauses and the water looks like normal water. Press K to turn the pack off and the realistic water comes back.
- ๐งฉ Embeddium: compatible.
- โก Performance: tested on an RTX 3070 at 1080p. A pit filling up costs about 9 ms per frame. A forgotten spring flooding the area stays around 30 frames per second or better.

๐ Good to know
- ๐ซ๏ธ A very thin film of water spread over flat ground slowly dries up, like a puddle. Water in a pool or a basin stays.
- ๐ This port contains the water only: the sand, lava and slime of the original mod are not included.
